jt
A Facebook friend just introduced me to this clip, which I'd never seen. It's Stevie Ray Vaughan plahying his signature Texas blues shuffle licks on a late 1920s Gibson l-1). About as cool as it gets, imho: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=98SN0OeZtD8 I saw SRV in concert several times. What a musical force.

capmaster
What a great player! I think a guy like him can make any guitar sound well, and a good one sound even better. Despite of the mediocre audio quality, it can be heard out clearly how the guitar reflects his dynamic and energetic playing style. Great clip - thanks for sharing! BluesKing777
Thanks JT. It sounds like him, but all we see is the Hat! Could be a ringer? Not you with a hat is it, JT? I saw him a couple of times at the height of his... hmmm... excess... and I was 3 rows from the front in prime viewing position for guitar lovers and he played so fast under the influence that his right hand was a 'BLUR". I am a Jimmy V lover as well - total class electric guitar player! BluesKing777.

SRV I saw that earlier, although this is the clip I was watching..... There is a short interview with him here @ 30 secs ... before he plays. jt
I am a Jimmy V lover as well - total class electric guitar player! I'm also a big Jimmie fan. I saw the T-Birds a number of times. Best was when they opened for Stevie and for an encore, Stevie and Jimmie did their double neck Dano schtick.
mountainpicker
That's a great clip of Stevie Ray. Nary a hint of hybrid picking that I could make out...all straight flatpicking. Awesome.
duluthdan
This is pretty cool. I have a friend of mine that plays this sort of aggressive attack - I will not let him play my guitars anymore because they really do take a beating.
The G
Awesome stuff. Also ,love when he does Life by the drop on the acoustic 12 string....

duluthdan
Come on Dan.....Really? They deserve to be spanked now and then! Gives them 'character' Nope. I rarely use a pick, he does, and quite agressively - if I loaned him a guitar for a weekend, I know it would come back looking like a reliced Aaron Lewis. Matter of fact, the used Yamaha I gave to him blew up in about 2 months, all that we could salvage was the Fishman Rare Earth soundhole pick-up. Stevie just gave his guitars a little character: And to think people pay Fender to do this to their brand new guitar.... FMA

jt
soz fellas...good clip JT... but its just showing off in my book,,, I'll agree that SRV often overplayed, just because he could and because his audience loved it. The impact in person, though, was extraordinarily powerful. Just ask Buddy Guy, Albert King, or Albert Collins. This said, SRV is not showing off here. This is a very restrained performance. He could easily have played three times as many notes.

Excactly. There are many guitarist mentioned on this forum that are extremely competent, popular and worth the accolades thrown at them, but then there are a mere handful that are just genius. SRV is one of the genius guitarist that lived in our lifetime. "Boring"? Oh my, you are showing how little you know about guitar and talent. Can't argue with the fact That he was one of the best . I don't have much of his stuff because ,like you, its a bit repetitive I feel. Rory Gallaghers the same. An absolute God ,same stuff over and over. but give me buddy guy or hendrix any day. They're all better than us though :)
