gotomsdos
Hi, folks. What string and gauge does Gibson use on J-35/J-45 to ship to dealer ?
Del Nilppeznaf
Goto this has been asked here ..it must be 1000 times.... but its probably difficult to find..as the way the search engine works we have it on authority from Boseman...all Gibson Acoustics are shipped with 12's The closest you can buy in shops are D'Arddario J16 12's of course this may have changed mods can you make a sticky telling this..haha ;)

The G
This information is on the Gibson website under specifications for the model you are inquiring about. For some reason the information is not always posted. Fullmental Alpinist
Gibson lists the J-35 as shipping with 11-52's J-35 The J-45 with 12-53's J-45 The confusion is that the 11-52's are referred to as "light gauge" which is actually the name of the 12-53's. The 11's should be listed as "ultra lights" on the J-35 web page. Previous threads discussing this agree with Red333 as to the brand. I like the Masterbuilts the best on my 'Bird so far. But if you can't get them where you are you might try the John Pease, if they're available. They're closest to the Masterbuilts I've found. blindboygrunt
Del, I'm glad to see you back and I'm fond of your craic . but you're acting snobby. :P Don't be shouting at some kid who has a , so called, silly question. You're reminding me of those bastids who worked in the music shops years ago before internet and all that and some spotty shy little kid (who looked a bit like me only skinnier and less wrinkled) wouldn't ask anything because they had such a condescending air. Stupid questions should be welcomed here. And there's also a chance that you or I might actually know the answer to some of them :D Stop it . and go get your van

Jerry K
The website appears to be controlled by Gibson Corporate from Nashville. They don't know squat about the acoustic specs, which are always changing, and the site is often wrong. When something happens, the last place to reflect it is the site. Gibson Montana is in charge of the facebook page, and I hear they are encouraging you to go there. The issue of correct specs, updated specs, etc. is something that has been discussed on this board since the old days back before they used this software and the index was a big old list of threads and dependant posts. The previous GM, Dennis, promised us at a Homecoming that the website would soon be fixed. Dennis is gone. The site is still accurate. Not. I think it's all 12's. Probably 80/20 nowadays. EuroAussie
Im pretty certain its 12's 80/20's ..... god only knows why theyre putting 80/20's on their mahogany guitars, it stripped all the nectar n' honey off my Bird TV until I put PB's on it. Phelonious Ponk
Unfortunate. Shops won't keep strings fresh, so any guitar not shipped with coated strings is at a competitive disadvantage in short order. They should swallow their pride, spend a little money and ship with Elixirs. P

Bob Isaac
From the packet: Product Description Gibson 80/20 Bronze alloy strings are known for their perfect balance of crisp, bright tone and playability. These strings the very same that come with Gibson Acoustic instruments bring out the true acoustic sound that only can come from a historically constructed, hand-built guitar. Gibsons 80/20 Bronze strings are ideal for all acoustic body designs, and for all playing styles. Bob

Or that is perfectly valid for a single member to post multiple questions on shop worn question ranging from strings to weather checking to why Fuller's website doesn't list their Gibson inventory? Or that simple (or as you described yourself 'stupid') questions are ok because it gives those of us who can't field the tough questions something to feel smart about? I'm just curious how much trivia is too much? When does one more question about 'what strings does Gibson ship with their guitars?' actually deserve a response similar to a court of law "Asked and Answered"? Of course we want to be open, all embracing and diverse here. But I am mystified about the strange obsession with trying to find out what other people think is 'the perfect string'. Sort of like Monty Python's Holy Grail, - not as funny after watching it 100 times. So, in conclusion - I second Del's motion - someone create a pinned thread on Strings. Certainly that would give the Newbies a much easier and more accessible place to get those questions answered.

But I really don't see a problem with these questions. It is possible to ignore them if you wish. Life of Brian may be on the TV . but if you don't want to see it for the hundredth time , change the channel ? Edit : There's also the possibility , because I've done it myself , that after spending some time in this forum I respect certain members point of view. So while it'd be easy to find countless posts online , its easier to spot who talks sh1t and who doesn't in here .. While online , not so easy :)
ParlourMan
we'll end up with pinned threads for half of the first page.... Why doesn't someone, anyone half sensible, produce a decent FAQ. Pin that and there will be no need for 20 pinned topics.... we have daily questions about strings, do I find them a bit pointless as it's subjective? Of course I do... should that mean they're disallowed just to please me? of course not.... but... we also have daily threads on saddles, bridges etc which could be easily answered with: Is it broke? If yes and under warranty see dealer to progress... if yes and not under warranty take to a reputable dealer / tech / luthier to be advised on necessary repair. NO it's not broke... well move along son..... It's as simple as the internet and other guitar geeks acting as enablers to the gear-lusty, the deeply paranoid that everything is wrong, and those who look for guitar inadequacies when it's skills inadequacies... Don't believe me, fair enough, go spend an hour or two on the AGF to see loads of people blaming perfectly decent production guitars for their lack of progress, or waxing lyrical than .2 of a mm difference is major, or will fix all their playing ills.... absolute nonsense. ps. what kind of pants are you wearing?
