Unexpected trip to New York

First off, Manny's, long the mecca of guitar stores everywhere, has been gone for years.

Actually it was bought by Sam Ash and operated by them for some time. Ash had 5 stores on 48th Street and last year finally consolidated and moved them all to a giant super store on 34th Street between 8th and 9th Avenue.

This leaves the one and only Rudy's Music Stop as the only emporium left on 48th. They also have a new branch on Broome Street downtown in SoHo which is also well worth a trip. Rudy's is one of the best shops left.

I'd also say while in midtown visit 30th Street Guitars - a large and changing selection of vintage stuff. Great shop and the guys there a cool to deal with.

While you're in the super store mode you can visit the Guitar Center on 14th Street.

I also recommend Chelsea Guitars on 23rd Street. Also, some unique rotating stock and Danny the boss is a very cool dude to deal with.

Down in the village Matt Umanov's has some stuff to see as well.

For more, Google "vintage guitars nyc" and you'll also get hits on shops in Brooklyn.

Not guitar store related, and you may have no interest at all, but Mrs. G was in NYC a few months ago for a business trip and they all went to Ground Zero. She said it was a most humbling, and in some sense, spiritual experience in some regard, and was well worth the time it took. YMMV.

Wouldn't miss it. That's why I'm going.... I have some family business to deal with in Boston but I going to NY for the weekend to see Ground Zero...

I guess it would be wrong to say "enjoy the experience" as you visit GZ. I'm thinking something more along the lines of "Take in the experience". I have two bucket list items on my next swing to the East Coast, GZ and the Vietnam Memorial in DC. I have some friends whose names are on that wall.

Wish I could get to Rochester but I'll just be in the city, staying in Manhattan. Ground Zero will most likely be the furthest point I go from m y hotel which is on 55th street. A walk over to 48th looks good and maybe 30th and 23rd.... Thanks for the info guys... [thumbup]

I have not been up there in quite a while.. But if you have a way of crossing the Hudson into New Jersey...

Lark Street Music in Teaneck

Robbie's Music (Wayne, N.J.)..

Neither is a long trip from Manhattan... But if I had to make a choice between them... Lark Street Music..
