:oilpit: Posted December 23, 2008 Posted December 23, 2008 I'm back for 1 post because I'm bummed... After you answer this you can go back to your oilpit vacation My amp: 18 watt Marshall combo 1x12 vintage Celestion Greenback rated at 20 watts open back cab My friends amp: 5 watt Epi Valve junior half stack 1x12 12" Eminence Lady Luck Speaker rated at 70 watts closed back cab Problem: We were jamming and the epi was so much louder than my marshall we had to keep the Epi at 6 and the Marshall dimed. Is it the speaker/cab that is making it so quiet? I got it used, could it be a tube problem? -oilpit-
Thundergod Posted December 23, 2008 Posted December 23, 2008 I dont know... maybe it is a tube problem, or a cab problem... they should sound at about the same level with the marshall being slightly louder, but just a little.
littlekenny Posted December 23, 2008 Posted December 23, 2008 but seriously, did you try disconecting the speaker in your marshall and using it w/ the valve junior cab? If it's still quiet then it's probably something wrong with the amp (tubes, electronics, etc.)
SRV-Zeppelin Posted December 23, 2008 Posted December 23, 2008 That sucks... keep in mind however that watt is a measure of power, not volume level. It could be that the speakers in your Marshall use way more power than the ones in your friend's Epi Valve jr. Unlikely, but possible. Good luck!
Guitar slinger Posted December 23, 2008 Posted December 23, 2008 No way man! Your amp is a handwired Marshall with a HUGE cab. I would first do as littlekenny suggested and then I would take it to a tech.
KSG_Standard Posted December 23, 2008 Posted December 23, 2008 Could be a loose nut between the floor and the guitar?
