MrPicker
Hi! Im going to buy a guitar for travis picking and Chet Atkins style. I really like the sound of this Gibson es295 guitar: There is a reissue of this to buy, the problem is that it has no bigsby on it, which is a must for me to have! :( http://www2.gibson.com/Products/Electric-Guitars/ES/Gibson-Memphis/1952-ES-295.aspx I've found out that there is a clone of this guitar called Peerless gigmaster sc, have some of you tried it and compared it to the gibson? Do you think it differ much in sound from the gibson? Epiphone is another "clone" with bigsby on it but it isnt in production anymore, and I don't like buying used guitars. What would you do if you where me? Maybe buy the Gibson and put a bigsby on it? Or would you go for some clone or maybe another guitar with similar sound? Thanks

Peerless's are highly rated in general and represent great value for money...I've owned 3 over the last 5 yrs Their factory used to make Epiphones until Gibson/Epiphone went a-hunting for lower labour costs in China... <_< There is no way a Peerless will match a Gibson for quality etc...as evinced by their low comparative price... Chet was a great Gretsch user over the years...so there is an alternative great sounding guitar...many with Bigsby's fitted... BTW...Peerless used to make the low end Gretsch's too... The top end Gretsch's are made in Japan and highly rated...price wise up there with Gibson... Enjoy the chase... V

I dont really like the filtertrons for travispicking personally but I think its great for rockabilly/rock n roll. I really like the tone of the es-295 for travis picking, its so clear tone and in my ears fatter than filtertron. It maybe depends on the p-90 pickups! The gibson es295 reissue is a bit expensive though :/, I wonder if it sounds as good as a real 50's es295..
