TM Posted September 4, 2013 Posted September 4, 2013 I posted a recent thread on my 1951 J-185. Had some request for sound clips. Got a video of my friend playing it and my Banner SJ. I also own a sunburst 51 J-185. These are my favorites among the many Gibson flat tops I have owned. The only brand new guitar I have every owned is a 97 blonde J-185, now in custody of my son. The originals are very different guitars, basically much lighter builds. Enjoy. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZK2SKdOjBjI
J-1854Me Posted September 4, 2013 Posted September 4, 2013 Terry They both sounded very nice, to my ear. They fill different parts of the tonal spectrum, if you will. Now you've made me want to figure out how to capture some better videos of some guitars too!! This is my '56: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oqiyVhjrrAs Fred
Martin 1940D28 Posted September 4, 2013 Posted September 4, 2013 Nice! nice! nice!! No way can you beat the "real thing". Martin 1940D28
TM Posted September 4, 2013 Author Posted September 4, 2013 Hey Fred. I did these with a new Sony NEX5r camera. It has high res video, not sure if I like everything I have recorded with it. I have also used a simple flip cam, video not as good, but for some reason sound is good. I did these videos to help sell the SJ (sold) I wanted folks to hear the J-185. It is pretty easy to get a youtube channel or just upload a video on youtube. I will probably being doing more of it, allowing players to hear some guitars they don't have a chance to play or even hear. I'm pretty cautious of Video/sound clips. I have heard really good guitars, played by really good players that sound very bad. Also clips with sound tweaked. I did nothing to the audio on these clips. Really a lot depends on the setting. Hope to hear some stuff from you.
62burst Posted September 5, 2013 Posted September 5, 2013 Great clips, guys. So, did you both have "hired guns" for the playing? I love the impromptu nature of the first clip, but eventually wish the folks in the background would quiet down & give a listen, too. That SJ had a beautiful J-45 sound to it. Funny- the person doing that playing which suited those guitars so well didn't seem to be too familiar with the models, but he sure could make them sing. Fred- That J-185 makes a strong case for the beauty of an aged sunburst Gibson; it's player was keeping a tight rein on it's sound; the sound hole & beautiful top pointed right to the camera/mic. Loved them all, thanks for sharing.
jt Posted September 5, 2013 Posted September 5, 2013 Terry and Fred, thanks so much for sharing these video clips with us!
