ParlourMan
I'll wade through the 16-track job later on, but I did listen to the JL Hooker job.... here goes... Del, I hate the lyrics, like I REALLY hate them, they say nothing really and they sound like a mash-up of 3.5 million other blues songs not belonging anywhere close to this era. I reckon you're a decent player and have the smoky blues voice etc... ie. you have the goods, but those lyrics don't do f-all for ye mate. The imagery used, bibles, dark moons, baby etc... all used 2 billion times too many already. It doesn't sound like you're telling me any truth, anything personal, new or open there, it sounds like filler rhymes on a blues groove. I'll go out on a limb and say anyone interested in blues should look to see what's happening in rap/hip-hop, not the gangsta "these are my biatches" shite but the decent clever stuff, rhymes of why/high/bye/sky and whatnot are all done to death, the rap game is where you find modern storytelling methods, how they use narratives and rhymes to cross lyrical rhymes and flows for the ideas presented. other then the lyrics, its a cool wee toe-tapper and whatnot, but in this case the words don't deliver the goods. Keep the tune, tell me about yer summer, make it truthful, personal, cleverer, self-effacing, sanctimonious, whatever... make it something that's not lyrically going through the motions and I'll tell you I love it. DO like the feet action going on......

Bravo.... Will report back on the rest later on as I need to take the dugs for a walk shortly before I nip out for a bit. Glad you agree, I'm really not rucking with ye there, just being honest. You can play well and you can sing well the genre of music that you're into. I like the wee groove, I love the feet shuffling too. It just doesn't sound like you wrote it with those particular words. I want to hear about badgers, vans, summers full of wine, getting wasted, sobering up, the lot, getting slapped off the Mrs because she caught you eyeing up some skirt from the van... but no american style lyrical cliches from days gone by. Lyrics, well, good lyrics are the hardest part of any songwriting venture as it's not easy to be that open and honest about subject matters. Get back on it, lay it all bare, sock it to me big man! warts n all........

cunningham26
I really dig it man, agree with others, really like Just Not There. Dark Moon's cool, well-trodded territory but not bad. Maybe if you did a technical electric version, kind of like Gary Clark Jr, Hanni El Khatib, Black Keys vein? Those guys are a rehash, but put a very unique stamp on it, and you definitely have the chops/ability to do the same. But I really like it, keep em coming! ParlourMan
Just back in, so not got through more tracks yet, but quick question.. you've mentioned 'enough for an album' twice and now a sound engineer in galway, are you making a record, Del? What's the low daddio?
Del Nilppeznaf
Just back in, so not got through more tracks yet, but quick question.. you've mentioned 'enough for an album' twice and now a sound engineer in galway, are you making a record, Del? What's the low daddio? Not really PM, just getting 3 or 4 songs recorded proper and see how it goes. I only met the guy a couple of months back when he was doing the live sound for a Trad' outfit in my local in Galway. We just got chattin and he's sound as a pound. Himself and his wife are musicians also and had just got back from a little tour of Germany where they had been playing there own stuff over there. He does live sound for people..which I have done in the past..gigs himself...and has a home semi pro studio set up... all things I can get into. He said he's just now starting to make a decent living off the music/ sound / recording and hes a couple of years older than myself...English fella also living in Galway..which is where I'm moving next year.... so just a good contact to have. I called him a few weeks after we had met and he was actually in the studio finishing up an album himself and his wife are putting out... so I asked him if I could get some of my stuff done...and he gave a really good price...just on the recordings miond..I'll have to get em mastered to CD..which will be the most expensive thing...if there worth doing that like. He has invited me to his son's christening party in the local pub I drink in at Galway..which was very nice of him, so I have just got a couple of CD's for him of me playing to give him a feel of how I sound. I'm ready to release an album...I have 30/40 songs...some need working on a lil... but I think I've found my style and voice..finally or maybe another 10 years ..haha... my playing is just catchin up to how I want to sound..so one day ;) cheers
blindboygrunt
Had a listen through last night del. Some stuff on there is very listenable, as someone said already some of it is a bit unoriginal. I liked the black berry mountain (wrong title I know , had a mental blank) . I'm afraid I'm agreeing with PM though in that some work needed with lyrics. Best of luck with the recording adventure , well jealous of that experience. And loo forward to the results. Have a good un
ParlourMan
just getting 3 or 4 songs recorded proper and see how it goes. Handy, so like a more polished up demo? I'm ready to release an album...I have 30/40 songs...some need working on a lil... but I think I've found my style and voice..finally Nice one... Go for it, only advice I can offer is to work on the ones which are fully written as running through ideas while you're on the clock can become quite expensive... especially if you end up making changes afterwards.
