onewilyfool
I will be checking out a Martin D-18VS, (12 fret round shoulder Dread), and was looking for some input....and YES, I know I could get this information on the UMGF, but I prefer to get the discerning input from a GIBSON point of view rather than from a Martin fan boy. I know a lot of guys on this forum have Martins, and the Jackson Browne, and am just looking for some experienced P.O.V.'s...thanks
merseybeat1963
I have no experience but if I were considering that Id go straight to the best of type, the D18A.
Salfromchatham
I think it is worth seeking out the opinion of jscio on UMGF. He owns a bunch of 12 fret dreds. Maybe worth you sending him a private message.
CrazyHeart
I had a D-18VS and sold it to a friend who has since sold it. We both regret getting rid of that guitar. GREAT TONE and just easy to play/very comfortable. I don't know why Martin stopped making them. I guess it wasn't a good enough seller.
Rambler
I played 28 and an 18. Didnt like the 28--too dark. The 18 was ok, mellower than a D18, but its not going to be funky like a Smeck--its still going to have that Martin mdi-range scoop thing.
62burst
...but not going to be funky like a Smeck--its still going to have that Martin mdi-range scoop thing. Â Yes. I just played a Madi D-28VS at GC on Fri. Most beautiful, interesting guitar in the room, to me. But when asked by the sales guy, who knows my Gibson leanings, what I thought... all I could say was "lovely guitar, but what happened to the middle?" Â There's recently been some good reading on the Anti Gibson Forum (thank you, EA) discussing slot heads, and any possible impact on tone... but mostly what a pain the string changes are. I'm glad Gibson is not currently taking custom orders; who knows what rash Frankenstein I might ask to have created.
ponty
When I bought that D18VS in 97-98, I thought it was a keeper. I part exchanged a 89 0-18.I loved the look and sound, and the 12 fret neck. I became tired of holding it! It is massive. It felt much bigger than my J-45s. Gibson101
I really want a D-18VS, I have a D-15S and love the feel of the 12 fret dread. It's such a comfortable guitar to play and I'm always impressed with the way it sounds.
