So..im getting ready to start gigging agin after a short hiatus ( or retirement if ya like ) and testing my new J35 with my set up.

I am very pleased at how well theses LR Baggs PUPS in the J35's

( and other models I believe PM do u have one in your J45 ?)

perform.

Anyway..i was wondering how they would handle me slapping the guiatr...say when Im playing May You Never...by John Martyn

they handle it very well..thank you :)... haven't tried her with the full P.A yet...but i know my set up well enough that I can forsee no problems at all...

Loving the fitted pup instead of faffing with my Baggs M1..and leads ect... also got my self a shiny new SM58...as using my sound mans old..very well gigged mic's always give me a bad throat

( just imagine all that spit/ snot and tears..that has gone onto these well gigged mics..esp when used by many different artists..hahaha )

Anyway...anyone else have any reports on how these pick ups are performing live...Aside from feedback issues..which I think we know about already with under saddle pups

thanks

They're decent enough stock pickups, like all others depends on your PA and EQ settings wether you get a nice enough sound or a wiry brittle one, or even a bass heavy muddy bag of garbage... but although they're not the most loved or fancy pickups out there I quite like them.

For slapping, should work OK, for playing any kind of drum beats and whatnot on the guitar, 'metro fingerstyle' I believe the kids are calling it these days, not so much because it's an undersaddle job instead of having bridge plate contact. If you want to play that kind of John Butler half guitar half punchbag stuff a K&K pure mini works nice for that... I used to do that stuff on our version of No Diggity before we got the French Cajon fella in.

All in all I quite like the Baggs element pickup, doesn't feedback at the first turn of the volume knob either.

I use a shure 58 beta. Great mics.

The old one gave you a sore throat from all the gunk and germs ? Or because you sang too hard using it ?

I think all j45's after 2007/2008 have the baggs pup . mine has the fishman , which works fine I guess . miss a soundhole control though. Bit of a bollox that. If I had money I'd offer you some for your M1. Always wanted to try one of those

well..everytime I go near an old mic..say at an open mic session or what not...my throat gets bad..so ya know...

i do sing hard sometimes too tho ;0

and the Baggs M1..i'm keeping that..they have rose significantly in price...and they are very good sound hole picups...well handy to just fit in another guitar ..and as a back up if feedback became an issue in any venue.ect.

cheers fellas

Haha, I'm down with the trendies, Del... I might dabble in acoustic guitars and whatnot but I spend half my time at DJ's, drum & Bass nights, hip-hop nights, comedy clubs, allsorts man... I live in the middle of the trendies area in a capital city, always something going on every night.

Had thought about installing one myself and running two pickups actually..... have to give it more thought, but can see the potential, could effectively be running separated stereo tracks for the wets and dries. Could be quite a thick sound.
