ParlourMan
UPDATE but man is she slippery...... Slippery like a rogue with dubious character traits? or Slippery like a 100m race across an ice rink using only Aldi bags to cover your bare feet? zombywoof
I have never owned a new guitar and rarely polish those I do own. Sure sounds though like it beats the smell of cigarettes and stale beer that seems to have seeped into every old case I own. Then again, I can handle a but of a musty smell in everything but a woman. onewilyfool
Nothing like the smell of a REAL Mahogany guitar.....sometimes even Rosewood has that great smell that it was named for. I think you should enjoy it while you can....it doesn't last more than 10-15 years. I once complained to the factory of TLK guitar cases, that my dreadnaught case stunk. For a while, I think they had some bad glue that really caused their cases to stink. The customer service person told me they put vanilla fragrance into their glue, and that is probably what I was smelling....it was NOT what I was smelling! But if the case has a fragrance, and some manufacturer's put fragrance into the finish, then the nice smell may have nothing to do with the wood. By the way, the case I got my '53 CF 100 in was not the original case. It actually had a snake skin glued to the top...lol....but the real surprise is that the case walls, top, and back is made of Aromic Cedar, probably Port Orford Cedar, and, boy does it smell good every time I open that case. Beat-up as hell, But I will never get rid of it!

Great feeling. My new SJTV never really builds up a smell cuz she hangs on the wall. LIke all my women do. (KIDDING!!!!) FYI I also have a Martin D15; you can't imagine a nicer smell. Vanilla mahogany whenever I open the case, and this is years later. The soundholewhiff on the D15 is the nicest guitar smell on the planet hands down! Andy Trickett
Oh Yeah!!!! I totally get that. When I bought my J35 during lunch I took 'her' back to the office. Strangely.... the Birds in the office loved the way the J35 looks and really liked the scratch plate, but.. all the Guys (cep't Ross... he wears a lotta burgundy..) well all the guys said hey what a great smell! Now I may be mad, but when I come home at night I can smell my J35 when I walk through the door.. Do I need psychiatric help? Andy

Combination of the spicy wood (someone told me the bracing is incense cedar -- I don't know about that though)scent and cotton candy. Wonderful. j45nick
It ain't just new guitars. One reason I keep my guitars in cases is to preserve that smell. This may sound a bit kinky, but I think I could recognize almost every one of my guitars just based on the smell when I open the case and stick my nose inside the soundhole. Some smell old, some smell new, but no two smell exactly alike..... (I think I need to get a life.)

I got a custom 0-15(gloss nitro, binding, the works) that came with the most foul smelling Geib case ever....the glue stunk to heaven. It took the great hog scent away from the 0-15 and infused it with that awful stench. Took me 3 weeks of daily charcoal filters, open all day, pack the sides with herbs, and a lot of hope before the glue stench relented. The 0-15 took 2 months of wall hanging to lose the glue smell. Lesson learned....check the new case b-4 you buy! And like Del, Virtuoso brought a great scent and feel to the 0-15. That stuff is magic!
Guest J-Doug
All three of the brand new Gibsons I have owned over the past 18 years left my hands smelling faintly of chocolate after I was done playing. My 2012 J-45 still does this but the 2005 J-100Xtra no longer does. Makes me kind of sad. ;-)
