I don't mind. I like the options. everyone can get the one they want. The J45 has been around for a long time. there are a lot of versions out there just due to it's evolution. It's cool to have so many available as new. It would only be a problem if you have to buy them all! to be honest, the problem was actually in the beginning and it was the other way around. they kept changing specs and buying a "J45" didn't mean what it did the year before. We are lucky they split it up for us so we can get what we want. imagine it's the mid 40s: your buddy bought a J45 last year and you love it. you want the same thing so you order one. he has the standard configuration and yours shows up with no truss rod and a mahogany top. you ordered the same thing that he had, and got this. if the internet were around, it would light up with the rant! at least now you can pick specs. :)

Looks like sombody was a bit bored last evening.

So much for the workhorse image. Looks more like a designer/boutique line of guitars.

But I got no dog in this hunt as I will just hold on to my 1942 J-50. No matter how many signatures, how many different types of woods, how many different finishes or pickgaurds Gibson may slap on one, they have never improved on the original.

Like I said in another post, the last true NEW model Gibson came out with was the 2003 Songwriter.....everything else, a different dress on the same models.....Where is the innovation spirit??? Why not try a baritone, a 13 fret model, carbon fiber, new bracing patterns. Man, I'll bet Ren is like a kid in a candy store, able to try many new things over at Guild, not so encumbered with tradition and rigid thinking and limited by marketing deciders.

A lot of the things on the list are the same guitar, different name, like current Standard used to be called Modern Classic, Historic, etc. Some are signature guitars endorsed by an artist and following specs they approved. Some are just different woods or customs. I don't see the point here. Choose an iconic model from another brand, like the Martin D-28 and you will have a list at least as long, with probably more varieties in current production than Gibson has J-45's at present.

Wasn't there also a "Modern Classic"...kind of an oxymoron. Actually, I think of them like cars - models change features, even if the name remains the same. Imagine the same late 60s fastback Mustang made today...and only that one. Sure, alot of people would want them, but not as many as would buy the latest thing. Then there's the Shelby Cobra reissue...
