Good to be back (online)

Hello all..

Ive been offline (painfully) as I have just moved home. So haven't been around that much recently... just popping my head in on my mobile but I hate using that for surfing. So im back online again today and thought id say howdy all :)

For anyone whos interested.. My Luthier projects are still going ahead, I just haven't had time the last few weeks while moving and sorting all that out (which always seems to take longer than youd think). And a few days ago I TOTALLY screwed my back up lifting a bed to hoover under it (yes I know, lift with the legs [crying] I always feel so stupid when I do this), so now I have to wait for that to heal before I can get going again (sigh!!!!)..

Also I think my project 1 (the double cut) is a no go :( which is a sad shame but I cant think of a way to save it without totally ripping it out and it would never be the same.. So I think that my best option now is to hang that on the wall and say I gave it a darn good shot, and move on to build 2. I think what I will do is maybe use that first build as a template for a new version. So it may come back again in another guise :)..

So yeah.. heres the view from my old flat (the picture makes it actually look nicer than it was).. A bit of a concrete overload...

I haven't moved that far in terms of area, but this is now the view from my front room (which is two streets away from a HUGE forest :))

NICE :) its taking me time to get used to my new flat as I was in the old one for 13 years.. But im sure I will as the surroundings are really nice. Have any of you moved from a long time home? How long did it take you to get used to it?

Also ive now got some FRESH wood lol.. my mums neighbour was cutting a tree down and she decided to get some wood for me (bless her :)).. Now wood takes YEARS to dry naturally so ive decided to keep a few of those pieces, just to see what happens and if I can ever get anything usable out of them :)

Anyway.. Well good to be back again.. hopefully it wont be too long before I can get back to my builds (which I am REALLY looking forward too)..

Welcome back, Rabs! Glad you're with us, again. Missed your "Luthier projects," etc.

Sorry, about your back, and the feeling that the "Double Cut" is a "no go." But, I'm

sure you'll come up with more interesting ideas/projects.

Cheers, and again...welcome back! [thumbup][biggrin]

Cheers man.. and yeah its a shame about that first build BUT it was always going to be my experimental first guitar.. Lets see how much I learned when I do the next one :) I haven't really looked at the first build in a while so maybe when I get back to it with fresh eyes I will think of something new.

I do have a few interesting things planned so hopefully my back will get better soon so I can get on with it :)

Hello Rabs,

I agree totally with Charlie Brown, and hope you will recover soon from both your trouble with the back and from giving up your double cut project.

My first move ever took place when I was 32 years old, and I moved a second time from a long term dwell after fourteen and a half years about four and a half months ago. I am far from being through it. After my divorcement, my son and me had and still have to cut down to about 30% habitable surface. This is also due to having lost my job, and so I had to rent a cheaper flat. My ex-wife went down to about 70% and isn't able to pay for, and so she and my daughter live on her mother's purse to a big extent... There are many things in a muggy storage waiting for sorting out, at the moment the guitars in my flat do better than me I think, and my amps and recording gear about the same [biggrin] - I borrowed two of my amps to pals to save space [wink]

Freely adapted from the Deep Purple album Come Taste The Band: I keep on moving [rolleyes]

The very convenience of this flat is that I am living now two floors on top of the rehearsal room of my number one band [thumbup] - never before had this advantage...

Lol nice.. Hows the sound proofing? :)

I too in a way have moved because of divorce amongst other things.. I was pretty happy in my old flat in many ways but it als holds a lot of memories that I think I needed to get away from. My kitty died there just over a year ago and well it seemed since I was starting an new career (or trying too anyway :)) it would be a good idea to move. Im sure I will get used to it.

And thanks for the wishes.. [thumbup]

As for the DC build.. its less about giving up an more about being realistic about what I can do with a set in neck that's glued with PVA... If I had used hide glue (which I did learn how to do on the antique furniture restoration course I did) id have been able to get it out with an iron... But the PVA wont allow for it (and I did try)... So the only other option is to dig it out from the sides with my Dremel tool.. but that will total kill it anyway.. So I decided that rather than totally destroy it, it would make a nice keepsake of my start in guitar making :)

As I say when I get back to it maybe something will come to mind.. you never know :) I will continue to look on the web for solutions to PVA reversal..

The rehearsal room stayed the same since seventeen years. I had lived in the same village that time with my wife and my son.

The memories have been one thing, but the other thing is that we are forced to sell the semi-detached house. However, it sometimes even hurts to pull out wallplugs. I did it all for eternity - or at least, I thought to do so... I missed it by far obviously. :(

OK, I think I got you now. You want to make it a memorial rather than to destroy it, so there is hope left to dig a chance for repair.

I also became more careful with what I'm doing since I rashly dismembered a defective old valve radio of my parents as a twelve year old boy. When I already had irreversibly destroyed it I found the mistake - too late! There was an interwinding fault shorting out a part of the primary leg in the output transformer of the single-ended poweramp around an EL 42 pentode, assumably due to arcing... [crying]

Forgot to mention our kitten. She is about fifteen years old now, lives at my former wife and my daughter, and is squealing at night since she seems to miss my son and me. She has only about two third of her normal weight, hardly more than skin and bones, and eats only when my son is visiting his sister... :(

Yup exactly... rather than totally destroy it, keep it for the memory of my first :)

Good to see you back.

Next time you foto out front there, could you get the Minister of Silly Walks* to come by?

Thanks.

Yes of course.. Its John Cleese :)

The next time I see him walk by in a silly manner I will photograph it for you :)

Don't you know everyone walks about like that with bowler hats on in London :P
