Another amp Q

I'd remedy the problem by getting an amp that is more apropriate to your environment. Even with removing 2 tubes that amp is still going to be way too loud. A 5 watt tube amp would be much more practicle and will supply more than enough volume for a bedroom.

Hey, you painted that pic in your avatar? Sweet!

Hey, thanks! I've got some more if you click the link...

The thing is i don't really care for any of the amps in that wattage! The lowest watt amp i like is the deluxe reverb. (the mesa 5:50 is starting to look pretty good with the choice between 5 or 50 watts)

You can only have a 100watts amp in your bedroom if you have a Variac - or if you dig those silly preamp tones you can get with master volume.

Or you could buy an amp more suited to your needs. I like the Variac because you can tame a monster and if you ever need to play loud (let's say you play at a stadium, who knows???) you can have that too.

That's why I really love my custom made Bassman. I have the Variac and I still can Jump the channels if I'm getting bitter.

Bigger house, bigger rooms, you might want to build a room inside a room with paralel walls never touching each other. At least 8 inches of air between wall and wall. Second room (inside) should be treated acoustically. You should also note that a room inside a room means floor too. So you have to make a floating floor and a separate ceiling (paralel to the original one). The most important part of course would be the door/doors. You should invest on a good (better a great) fire proof door... those seem to be already acoustically correct, as they are meant to seal the room hermetically, thus preventing anything to go in or out unless you want it to: fire, air, sound, ... water?

You could still get into trouble if you crank the thing up, so you might wanna look at the posibility of making a little cab for the amp... you have someone on the know, to build this cab, about double the size of the amp... inside you place mics (prefferably 2) in such a way that you can control them and set them as you like in your desk (if you dont have a desk, then buy one, and some active monitors). You close that thing with the amp in and you will hear the amp, but anyone outside the room wont.

That, or you could do as sugested by guitarslinger. :)

Really, unless you are playing arenas, you wont need a 100 watt amp... not even a 50 watt tube amp. I have a 30W and a 40W and can never use them above 50% not in the studio (highly controled and acoustically treated enviroment) and not playing live.

I have played some arenas, for 15000some people... and I used 2 30Watters (AC30 cc2x) and got them miked, no problem there.

Anyway, chances are, if you are playing arenas, you can afford to build rooms inside rooms... (EDIT) at least up there you should... down here it doesnt matter how many arenas you play... you still have a to have a good day job... aw ..fuc-k...:)

i'll have to look into the room within a room thunder!!! (don't think my parents will spring for that one...:-k )

I think this epiphany may eliminate the twin from the running???... it seems like the winner (when i save the $) might be the deluxe reverb (with the mesa 5:50 getting reserve)?

what'd ya think?

25 watts is still some real serious volume, even 15 is a lot. The sound of the Mesa's is different so you may want to try one first. An Orange tiny terror or Epi Jr. will be worth a look.

Play the mesa if you can find one, the 5:50 is a sweet amp, it's not a metal or hard rock amp, but neither is the dlxe reverb, The mesa 5:50 is 6L6 based and will purr or rock, it has easy to use channel and tone sculpting controls and comes directly from the Fender tone palette. The 5:25 is EL84 based and comes from the Vox tone palette. The dlxe reverb 6v6 based, is an awesome amp, but you'll probably need a pedal in front of it to get hard, dirty sounds. Anything over 5 watts will be very loud in your room.
