BluesKing777
How come I can watch Tony from MV and his videos all day and night on my original iPad, but as soon as I play a video form someone here it konks it, and won't keep playing for anything or anybody? Any experts on the iPad? I have looked through the settings to see if I can cut the playback resolution, but can't see anything. Can't play my own videos continuously unless I record them at a lower resolution! BluesKing777.
duluthdan
No expert but I think it has to do with an old arguement Steve Jobs had with the Flash Player people years ago.

Cleared all history and cache - was reluctant as I have done this before and lost all the 'thread history links' in the Gibsons forum. I cleared all - have lost the history links and the videos still stalls. Ratz. BluesKing777.

ParlourMan
This forum works on code which is clearly not smartphone/tablet optimized. There's about 20 different random issues with it when viewing on smartphones/tablets, doesn't seem to be vendor specific either, seen the same issues from Android as I have seen from IOS. One I seen yesterday was a post containing a video in the first post of a thread, viewable, well rendered on the page.... till there was a reply, now the first post looks like some text with a massive white-space where the video should be. CHecked in on a JellyBean device, same result....
BluesKing777
Aha! Gibson's fault! I do like the little red arrow thread memory thing on this forum though - some other forums are a nuisance without it. I just tried the videos on my work p.c.supplied by my boss - cheapest Del Optiplop or some horrid name - thanks boss if you are listening on your latest top of the line jobbie....... - of course the videos work fine, except there are no speakers on the p.c. and my headphones get all the noisy clicks and pops from a lousy soundcard, I suppose. I will put in for a new, way overdue iPad for Chistmas and see if it improves things. But number one weird thing is that Music Villa and Tony's videos can go all day - must be the recorded resolution - Toby walker's video won't even start. BluesKing777. Murph
I got an i5C Friday. When I pull up the Gibson forums on the iphone my avatar is my profile picture. With the home computer, pc, it's the acoustic instruments with the Carvin amp. I thought THAT was weird..........
twalker
Toby's site is rather slow. Hi ParlourMan. Thanks for the heads up. Many times it has to do with the browser you're using and/or the device. Can you be more specific?
ParlourMan
Hi ParlourMan. Thanks for the heads up. Many times it has to do with the browser you're using and/or the device. Can you be more specific? I'm on the other side of the pond, Toby, so that is a factor too, but from AGF I have visited your site from home & work many times..... From home, I have a Linux Box, very stealthy, a choice of Linux based browsers, but typically I use the main machine which is a recent mac, Safari / firefox. Typically the site wilkl render the background images with a 10-15 second time for a full render. I'm on a fast DSL line also. From work, I'm using a Windows based machine, very recent and fairly high powered too, obviously our connection is ridiculously fast as it's not a small company, many people and connectivity is a key area of business, so we're talking a very dedicated setup. Again, it takes a bit of time (slightly faster than home) but considerably slower than something like Stefan Grossman's pages, wildly slower than the likes of Amazon etc... (to be expected) Do you host from home or from a small company? Do you rent hosting space on a server or have a dedicated server Does your contract have connection specificities max amounts, session caps etc? Don't get me wrong, it's not unusable by any means, just not always too responsive. Memorable enough for me to ponder at the time if you were hosting it yourself on a home server. Sorry I steered you wrong and caused you to lose the thread history links you like BK....Safari on ipad has had know issues with embedded videos that clearing history and cash would sometimes resolve... Don't be sorry, Bram! You were correct I think, but with the additional step of completely shutting down the iPad. I then left it off while I had a snooze, coffee, lunch.....most videos seem to be working now (not all - some are a problemo). The other missing ingredient was solved by Gotomsdos' thread - the 'we had to laugh our shorts off' video! And I will stick to guitar playing and leave the computers off! BluesKing777.
