I wonder if this is another production model or just a private request from Slash??

I love Slash an all but does he REALLY need another sig model lol :)

The message on the page reads

"Here is the @gibsonguitar Vermillion AFD LP. Very 70's looking. Exactly the same as Rosso Corsa. Just different shade of red. iiii]; )"

he's probably responsible for half of Les Paul sales since 1988, so sure...

I'm still never buying any guitar with someone else's name on it [flapper]

(except Les Paul ofc..)

LOL .. well hes certainly one of the reasons I wanted a Les Paul... Not only do they look amazing, they have one of the fattest sounds going which is what always drew me to them and to his playing, hes always had and has a great tone going on..

And yeah im not into sig guitars either but if I were to get one it would probably be one of his :)

I think the guy is great and love his playing, but I hope they don't do another sig for him.....

I'd rather see them actually get a little creative........Steve Clark is long overdue.....Mike Ness?......Charlie Daniels even.....I'm sure there are others, but one guy shouldn't have tons of them.

Just my .02

I love seeing Les Paul players say they would have a signature guitar. Makes me grin [biggrin]

Yes we all know that its Les Pauls signature on all Les Pauls... but that's different, he invented them so deserves to have his name on :)

I love Slash I buy all his Albums DVDs and books he rocks, way cooler than Axl.

You know its funny.. Today I realised how much my collection of LPs are so similar to some of Slash's signature models lol

You got this one (which admittedly I bought a similar colour because I saw Slash playing one, it was just always my favourite colour cos it looks like it could be from the 60s :))

Of course my goldtop is quite different but I just thought it odd.... All im missing is an Amber AFD type lol which oddly enough ive always wanted (I was even gonna spray my first home made guitar Amber).. The only one I have that's totally different (im not sure ive seen him play one) is the DC Junior Special..

haven't purchased any of the previous ones, won't buy this one. If there is money to be made, good for Gibson and Slash. I still can't help but smirk that Gibson made a replica of his Les Paul replica. That was priceless.

I will say that I am far more impressed with his recent Marshalls than any of his signature guitars. The AFD100 is a monster and the SL-5 sounded pretty good when I played one at Sam Ash.

I bought the Marshall SL-5 for its sound and features and sold my JCM1 head.

Hmmmmm.... Interesting...

I gotta admit I like my JTM1 head a lot better than my JCM1 head. Maybe I should look into the little Slash combo... :-k

the jcm head was disappointing. I really liked the JTM and JMP (GC had a NOS JMP for $650 this week, probably could have haggled with 'em but oh well).

The SL-5 is a surprising cool amp. If I was in the market for a low watt Marshall-esque amp, that would be on the short list. Plenty of gain on tap, but it still retained that classic Marshall crunch for 70s rock.

Most of what you say is correct but the guitar he brought with him was "the Log", a solid block center with the sawed off sides of an Epiphone screwed together, not a solid body, he had the idea of a solid body all maple guitar but not exactly the Les Paul design. Mccarty designed the Les Paul shape the way we know it.

Ted added the tune-o-matic because one of the few features designed by Les Paul was the original tail piece.

I am a freaking hack and while I liked my JCM1 through my 1980's Marshall 1965a 4x10 cab I could not justify having both the SL-5 too, so, just for features the JCM1 had to go...I sold it with good timing while there was a vaccuum and not a single one was for sale for a while and made $100 on it after using it for almost a year...not too shabby [thumbup]

What about his pickups though? Anyone try them? Any Reviews?

+1

Not sure whether there would be any point in swapping out my studios 496r/498t for the Slash set. Don't mind the Gibson pups but the 498t I'd imagine is a bit less open and refined.

Love Slashs tone for blues and rock.

Im glad to see a cool guy getting signatures but I think that's just another one for him to wear out personally.

Nope... its a production model :)
