el capitan
This week I bought a 1996 Epiphone Excellente Korean re-issue of the '60's top of the range. Bought new in 1998,played at home for two years then stuck in the loft until now. As you can imagine it needed some setting-up,which I've done & it's come up like new. IMHO the finest Korean flat-top I've ever laid a finger on.

el capitan
Today I changed the bridge pins for bone ones. Not sure if the guitar sounds better, but the new pins look & fit better & are easier to remove.Probably try D'DARRIO strings next.

If a string change improves your playing to any great degree, which might be highly problematic, you may be eligible for a scholarship to the PPPAOAGT -PISS POOR PICKING ACADEMY OF ADVANCE GUITAR TECHNIQUES of which I am the past president and proud founder. el capitan
Changed bridge pins on the Sunburst to bone, thought I may as well change the strings. Put Epiphone Acoustic strings on (12-53 Allegedly)No mention of where they're made on the packet and they are CRAP! Packs have pic of Masterbilt headstock & don't state the composition either (80/20 bronze?) Have reported to Epi counterfeit-no response. My guess is they're genuine, but made in China. mooseguy
El Capitano I keep reading with interest the endless discussions on this & the Gibson forum about how the various models compare to each other in their sound. Being that I have almost always owned Gibsons till I found my Epiphone Excellents (both the originals and the reissues)I can only say that we are both most fortunate to be having the pleasure of playing them. I hope your recent natural Korean reissue has lived up to your expectations. Regards, Moose P.S. I wish all the other forum members the same joy our guitars give us. el capitan
Played it at a rehearsal last night. TBH it wasn't as loud as a Blue Ridge.I've put another shim under the saddle which got rid of a "ping" on one or two notes, but I will have to put anew saddle in sometime. Merry Crimbo to all my readers!

The latest happening effecting our Academy located in beautiful downtown Mule's Breath Mexico is that the increased volume of local gun fire has made metronomes absolutely unnecessary. My internet friend El Capitan, who is one of your countrymen, actually has a band called The Concrete Cowboys. Accordingly, with a band of that name I feel he might greatly profit from one of our remaining Esteban scholarships. This gentleman has a wonderful sense of humor and sends me great material.I am trying to get a CD together for both of you that demonstrates the virtuosity of Song Writing Course No.69A which the Academy features. Diverting back to the point I send you and yours Mucho best wishes for a Happy Tequila Holiday Moose P.S.
