the axe actually arrived last Tuesday, but haven't had the time for pictures.

Congratulations to Kirk Douglas for getting this guitar made for him. I'm proud to own his signature guitar. I get that feeling about this guitar that in 25 years, its gonna have that mystique. Its a timeless shape, blade thin neck, vibrola. etc.

Yes this is the guitar for you if you like to tweak. (a good and bad thing)

There were a few things that concerned me at first with the Q.C. but after a good set of strings with proper winding at the headstock, and getting used to the vibrola this is one beautiful guitar. The vibrola handles shimmers a la Johnny Marr, or Ennio Morricone with grace, but you will need a proper set up first! Comes with .10s but .11s feel (to me) more precise.

She was Born:

Nashville Plant, TN, USA

August 27th, 2013

Production Number: 262

It arrived in my hands and first chord was played 9.24.13

I've actually been playing this guitar through a Roland JC 120. Clean chords are shimmering moonbeams. I've always wanted an SG Custom... Always, and its taken me this long to get one, and it was worth the wait.

I think that the middle pickup may have some issues, even when the height is adjusted at the screws.. but time will tell. its a BEAUTIFUL guitar. When the action was adjusted, and ready to go, she played like a dream come true.

What still concerns me is the coil splitting. The tophat knobs on the pots that activate coil splitting are loose, and wiggle. The pots themselves are seated firmly. Just loose tophat knobs.

I bought my guitar from Zzounds, and they were very... VERY helpful.

Sweetwater was the #1 contender for my business at first, but they dragged their feet in terms of customer service, and gear availability. As of now, Sweetwater does have them in stock, and they are available for 24 months no interest until Dec 31st... Lord Help me...

MF&GC still have pre-order on their websites and who knows when they'll get them.

I opted for making my first purchase with Zzounds. plus, Zzounds gave me a deal I could not refuse. I hope nothing ever happens to this guitar. I mean, is it true they're only making 400? or is that just hype.. when you get a guitar this personal, and beautiful, its like finding "The One" The one that 'till death do us part'

The only dicey part was the courier method. I thought my guitar was going to be shipped Fed Ex Ground. but for some reason, it was shipped Fed Ex Home delivery, which sucks. Fed Ex is quite lax in always scanning the packages. Never mind you paid over 1,000 bucks for a limited release guitar if it hasn't been scanned in more than a couple days and no one can account for it... it will make you quite nervous. An Fed Ex call centers have the same info you do on your screen so they just tell you nothing.

When the guitar finally arrived. She's so beautiful. wow....

So take just a few more minutes with the guitars before they leave the factory Gibson! We ain't askin for the world! Just a little more attention to detail!

I use it for work in a music ensemble with acoustic guitars and a harp. As well as for comp chords & leads with an acoustic singer songwriter. So far, so good. blends quite well in both applications.

  • 3 weeks later...

Charlie, did you get yours yet?

NOPE!! Not YET?!! [cursing][unsure][crying] Ironic...being one of the first one's here,

to order it, and now...it looks like I may be one of the last, to actually GET it?! LOL [biggrin]

But, WTH...as long as it arrives (eventually), and is in great form,

I won't complain. Waiting is a "character" builder...so, they say! [tongue]

Indeed, Congratulations. How do you like the blend?

referring to the middle pup? i thought it would have a bigger difference in tone over all. I think that the middle pick up blend function is probably more apt to be used in a studio environment possibly.

I gigged with the KDSG last night and stayed on the neck the whole show.

last night she sounded excellent!

KDSG + Crybaby + DD7 + Roland JC120 = heaven

Funny you say that, I have never been so fond of setting it to the neck position and playing. Sounds fantastic!

I like the middle pickup blend function very much on my SG Supra but miss coil splitting like on my Frank Zappa "Roxy" SGs.

To my taste SGs put out a very nice tone through their neck pickups, very useful for clean sounds in particular. Combined with the enhanced upper midrange of a Roland JC-120 this works fine for me, too.

yes. depends on what sort of application you use it for live. In my ensemble I'm a clean rhythm player. neck position pickup sounds warm and clear.

Personally, I'd so be into seeing what this KDSG guitar can do through a plexi with a solid drummer on a 3 piece 60s Ludwig.

I've seen the YT vids. these 57 classics can make some serious noise.

I stopped in Sam Ash yesterday and they had one in stock. I just have to say the pics online don't do this guitar justice. It is down right gorgeous!

If I didn't already have the Midtown Kalamazoo ordered, I might have just brought it home.
