boyscout
Gibson produced a '74 Custom Reissue earlier this year with some of its last ebony boards. However I can't find anything about the guitar searching on the Gibson site. Are there links that I'm missing? T.I.A.
btoth76
Hello and welcome to the Forums! Never was there any info. It all began with the Randy Rhoads signature model, then the 70's Spec Customs appeared, and - finally - the '74 V.O.S. It has two variations: It either comes with the AlNiCo 3 "Super '74 Humbuckers" (first reissued for the Rhoads model), or with the more common 490R/498T pickup combination. Also some come with top-hat, others with witch-hat pot knobs. Basically, it's the Randy Rhoads Custom without the great artist's name on it. 70's style, voluted, small "D" neck made from mahogany. Layered body. Also sold in black. Cheers... Bence
boyscout
Thanks Bence, helpful. I've picked one up, black VOS. Is there a way to know, without pulling them, which of the two pickup types are in it? Any idea how many of these were produced? Thanks again. EDIT: Decided to try some other strings on it, so I pulled the pups. They are labeled "Super '74" and wound by PS in mid-2011.
btoth76
Hello! Congratulations on Your new guitar! (I am envy as hell now ;)) That one in cream is my dream guitar! If it's not stated on Gibson's site, quantities are not public - unfortunately. Surely, Yours is a rare one. I'd have never known about them if I haven't bumped into a couple on of the shop's site. They were never up on Gibson's own product page. Enjoy it with good health! Cheers... Bence
Cú Chulainn
just out of curiosity, can the Super 74's be bought separately? :)
