MissouriPicker
Couldn't get Sound Cloud to play right now, but I'll come back to it. I'm interested in hearing your take on this song.

MissouriPicker
sal, I think you do a real good rendition of this song. If I heard Lee's version after your's, your's would be the standard I'd compare it too as "about as good." Plus, you do it your way. Nice combination of fingerpicking and strums. I think "subdued" fits the song perfectly. All of Lee's versions I've heard tend to be on the quiet side. I like the way he enunciates some of the words, but your smoothness is also very effective...... Another real-easy-to-listen-to song. Good song for late at night. There's a lot of just plain being human in these lyrics and you express it well.

His Mission Bell album is real good. It tells a story... beginning to end. Heartbreak. Sadness. Bottom. Desperation. And of course Salvation (Cup of Sorrow). It is rare to hear an album tell a complete story like that nowadays.
RusRob
Nice job Sal. Something about your voice reminds me of Roger Watters from Pink Floyd. You should give a listen to some of his work. (Floyd is my all time favorite band). Here is one he did with Eric Clapton. (Martin Alert!!!)

Gio
Impressed and envious. I must admit I can understand RusRob's mention of Roger Wtares but I hope you don't mind if I say that your voice reminds me of Jeff Tweedy...
MorrisrownSal
Guys thank you. My voice is - challenged... so the key is for me to pick songs that fit into my narrow sweet spot! Have a great day all. I probably wont get around to picking up my Gibson till this weekend. Maybe I can find a spare 5 min to noodle on my cheap Yamaha office guitar... RusRob
Sal, I wish my voice was as "challenged" as yours... I like to think I can sing, but the reality hit me many years ago that I have a mediocre voice at best. Back in the 60's and I played in a number of bands and a couple of those I was the main singer (only because the other guys couldn't sing at all). In the 70's I realized that my voice was only good for backups and harmonies. I still meddle around trying but every time I have recorded myself It reminds me that I really shouldn't be... MissouriPicker
Sal, Bob, your voice isn't challenged. Don't sweat it. Just sing a song your own way. You and I will never be able to sing a song like Celine Dion , but we can sing a song like Sal or Bob or Larry. AND, Celine will never be able to sing a song like us.. ........Look at the stuff Cash did when he was dying. His voice was gone, yet he did songs that he hadn't even done when he was young and healthy. Who he was and the situation he was in gave his voice a fragile authority that overwhelmed his limitations at the time and that money can't buy....Just keep doing your music the way you feel is "you." You've got to be who you've got to be.
RusRob
That is correct MP, no one can sing like me... or lets hope no one tries. And I pray I don't start sounding like Celine Dion

And I pray I don't start sounding like Celine Dion There's a truth in what's being said here rob. Don't be ashamed in your voice. There's a few here who post music , myself included , who certainly aren't Roy Orbison. But still its great to hear. Pick your songs well and I'll work fine. You don't need a huge range to rattle off a Dylan tune . Many will be say I can't sing , but no one will be able to say that I didnt
MorrisrownSal
Many will be say I can't sing , but no one will be able to say that I didnt Amen. And I for one would love a long drive accompanied by a CD of crap like yours and the other guys and gals posting here. It is real, and real is what establishes a connection between me and music.
