This is my very first post on a forum period and I have seen people get pretty upset when somebody posts something that has already been talked about so I'm sorry if I have done this but I really didn't know where to start!! Anyway I just got my Kirk Douglas SG yesterday and it truly is a beautiful instrument extremely versatile endless tone options but I gotta say I wasn't thrilled with the setup I got some fret buzz goin on,when you tune it I'm getting that tink tink tink sound you get on your lower end guitars and also the tremolo arm is so tight you can hardly move it now I know that these are easy fixes but I would have thought spending this kind of money everything would have been perfect right out of the box? I'm looking for other people opinion on this guitar???

I got my 2nd Kirk Douglas American Musical Supply two days ago. First off, I love the guitar. It sounds and feels great (once you adjust the pickups) and looks amazing. I can already tell it is going to become one of my favorites guitars.

Now the downside. Gibson QA is slipping. My first Kirk Douglas arrived last Wednesday NIB and as soon as I pulled it from the case I noticed something was off. Sure enough the head stock was completed separated from the neck. The only thing holding it on was the plastic veneer. This tells me it must have been packed straight from assembly with too much tension on the strings. How else does a QA'd guitar snap its headstock off in the case in an unopened box.

So then I get my 2nd Kirk Douglas guitar and this time I get a generic case instead of the Signature case it is supposed to ship with. I have called AMS and Gibson and no one has returned my call regarding getting me a new case. I don't want to return the guitar to get the correct case since, this would be the 2nd time I'd have to return the guitar.

One other key thing to note is this guitar took longer to adjust than any other guitar I've taken straight out of the box. The Zakk Wylde Epiphone I recently purchased needed zero setup and it was only $699. For a $1499 custom SG I would expect a similar experience. Instead the pickups were so high they were practically touching the strings. Fortunately, they were easy to adjust (I had heard of others that had a hard time). There was also a film on the pick ups that took me close to an hour to polish off.

If you are thinking of purchasing one of these guitars, they are an incredible value for a signature guitar. Just be alert to the fact that all may not be perfect straight from the case.

I would hope the neck would be strong enough to withstand overtightened strings. IMO, it's more likely that whoever packaged it broke it and didn't want to own up to it.

And btw, wrong section.
