Romanticsrule
Dear Members-- I am building a solid body, all mahogany guitar with mahogany neck and rosewood fretboard. I LOVE Gibson p90 pickups, and want to put in three p90s in a strat style body, but wasn't sure about how to match them. Are all new stock Gibson P90's the same? Or are some made for bridge, some for neck? Also, What are people's thoughts on whether I should add a maple top to it, or just go all mahogany? Thanks so much, and I look forward to hearing your opinions! Thanks!
btoth76
Hello! Gibson's P-90 pickups are all the same. There are no separate verisons for neck and bridge positions. P-90s are rather hot pickups, with bright, raw sound. If You put them into an all-mahogany guitar, they would sound more refined, in my opinion. The maple cap - on a Les Paul for example - is intended to add brightness to the overall sound of the instrument. But the P-90 have a lots of bite already... It really depends on what You prefer and what genre of music You're playing. Considering the above factors You can decide which way You want to go. Good luck with Your project! Cheers... timtheshredder
I believe all P-90s are the same,so you shouldn't have any issues with matching. They should sound nice on the mahogany body. They should really warm up without having a maple top.
