music4love
Beautiful Guitar. Just too bright for my personal taste. Hummingbirds should be warm in tone.
DJ in FL
That is a BEAUTY and all the inlays are out of sight...but a bit dark for my taste. Too many ways to lighten it up which would have been my choice...but then again that is why some of us like redheads and some like ...others. Hairy Dave
I love it JC - will probably be too blingy for most, but I'm feelin it. Gets me thinkin though... with it being maple, when does a hummingbird stop being a hummingbird (if that makes sense)? I'll maybe start a new thread... Well gibson did build maple hbirds in 1963 so it's not something New JC
E-minor7
Fine guitar - now it's in the cards we have to A/B with this one to find out where it's at. And I like the cherry better. Not so overwhelming and thus more defined. The quilted amber is impressing, but quite a monster. Then again I fell for the red flyer from close to the first bar. Hairy Dave
Well gibson did build maple hbirds in 1963 so it's not something New JC Ah, I didn't know that! I guess I never associated the Hummingbird with that kind of sound.
JuanCarlosVejar
Ah, I didn't know that! I guess I never associated the Hummingbird with that kind of sound. Dave , Norm's in California has one : http://www.normansrareguitars.com/gibson-1963-hummingdove.html they called it a hummingdove but that's not really the name . there is a video to go with it : JC
Hairy Dave
Thanks JC, that was interesting. I think it muddies the water for me though. I always presumed the Hummingbird and Dove had the same body style, shape and scale length, and it was the woods and appointments that made them different. If that's the case (I'll look up the specs on Gibson shortly) is a maple Hbird basically not a Dove?
blindboygrunt
Both lovely looking guitars there ,but wasn't so fussed on their sound. The maple one I liked a little better. I was assuming when the video first started that he was playing a maple because it didn't sound too hummingbirdish to me. Strings n pick and playing style all day come into play here I guess. And why why why do these guys play different songs on a two guitar comparison video !! :(
The G
Not normally a fan of bling, but I kinda like this Bird.
BluesKing777
I really like it for some reason, but if it was a small body with the same bling, I would be gassin........................................... So picture this - 37 L-0 for mainly home use/recording; Gibson Blues King for pub gigs; and a very fancy L-00 with all the above bling to whip out for the big ending....... BluesKing777.
