AlanC
Having just read a couple of threads about L5's and seeing the lovely 1965 L5 posted by Danny W, I thought that it might be interesting to post a few pics of our L5's to see what you guys own. Here's mine :-

L5Larry
OK, I'll play. Here's my 1990 built "Historic", signed by Jim Hutchens. Since this photo was taken it has received an ebony bridge, reflector top knobs, and Grover Imperial tuners. The back has some really nice flame. Here's the new handmade, perfectly intonating ebony bridge. One last pic, the headstock with Imperials. OK, I'm done now.

Does the bridge alter the tone much? And if so in what way?
L5Larry
Does the bridge alter the tone much? And if so in what way? Yes, it gives it a much more (very noticeable) "woody" tone (and less sustain). The ABR-1 was too "jangly" for what I wanted out of the guitar (think Freddie Green). Between the ebony bridge and the La Bella black nylon tape wound strings I don't know how the tone couldn't get any smoother.
rpguitar
There are a couple of non L-5 interlopers in this photo, but it's the only one I could find where my 3 L-5s are pictured together. 1928 L-5 1972 L-5CN with Johnny Smith pickup 1947 L-5N with DeArmond 1100 Rhythm Chief pickup

jimmyl51
Dave, Can I ask you when you had ordered this L5CC from the custom shop and how long did it take them to manufacture it? Nice guitar! jim in Maine
daveg
Jimmy, I wish it were mine!!! I just saw it there and thought it worthy of being shown here. Some lucky guy probably has it by now - but not me. Sorry, DG

AlanC
Four thin ones and a Byrdland. Danny W. Yeah yeah Danny. It's got to be the best guitar photo I've seen. An awesome collection. Envy is the colour green…...

Depending on what tuners you have, you might be able to just fit "Imperial" buttons to your existing tuners. http://www.allparts.com/TK-7713-002-Grover-Gold-Imperial-Buttons_p_3910.html

I had already checked out that the Grovers fit into the same holes as the tulips so no drilling. Which is great. But I hadn't thought of changing the buttons. I'll look at that. Thanks Larry.
