"Brand new vintage guitar case"? Looks like a TV case, but it's an oldie. For those who feel the shocking pink interior on this or a True Vintage case is not the most complimentary to the Gibson burst, bear in mind that TKL/Cedar Creek, who make the TV case, can custom make the identical case (in the TV's saddle color or ?) with the interior color of your choice in crushed velvet for less $ than this offering. You'll just have to do a lot of measuring... and waiting.

That price is a bit rich, but I paid about $300 for a Cali Girl case made by G&G for Norman's Rare Guitars in LA as part of a run of vintage-style cases. Norman's was going to market these for vintage J-45's or similar that often had only chipboard cases when they were new.

Nice case, but it weighs a ton, as did the originals.

Just purchased this one yesterday - couldn't resist its mix of cool'n'beauty.

Will follow my vintage G's to the end -

I have a case that is very similar to that one, purchased new by me in about 1970. Is it a bit of a loose fit for either a square or round-shouldered jumbo or D model?

It is a vintage first-70's case for dreads - not sure if it's a Gibson.

Can't say anything about the exact size - it is still in Nevada ,-)

Of the guitars listed in the ad the only one that you could have gotten the Faultless Cali case for originally would have been the SJ.

Maybe somebody here knows the answer why but it seems it is the brown cases with five latches that are highly sought after and sell for crazy high prices.

Just because they look cool, I expect. Different.

My Cali Gril case (shown before) actually has six latches. Don't know if the Gibson Cali Girl cases have five or six latches. My better TKL-made cases all have six latches.

I have two 1950s brown Lifton cases (not Cali Girl but with the thinner brown padding) both of which have four latches.

Strange, the Cali Girl case that I got with my HB TV doesn't have the "blotchiness" that the one in the ad has. Mine is an over-all brown texture.

That "blotchiness" is the pattern of the Tolex covering, and is consistent with that on the original Lifton Cali Girl cases from the 1950's. The uniform brown case is a modern interpretation that is not exactly like the old ones. Still nice, however.

By the way, Martin used a virtually identical case in the same period. The first one I ever saw was the one my college room mate had for his D-18 back in the mid-1960's.

My old ones have the blotched look thing. At the very least Lifton, which was one of several companies that made cases for Gibson, did not produce cases designed to fit this or that model guitar like a glove. They were more generic and meant to be able to work with a bunch of instruments. So the cases ordered by Gibson, Martin and others would be identical.

So the Martin had the same seducing light-purple-plush ?

I just got this J185 a couple weeks ago and it came with this case.

I like it. Six latches and a movable extra neck support.
