charlie brown Posted October 21, 2013 Posted October 21, 2013 For me, it's John Mayer....not because of his playing, but because he's such a "Cretin!" CB
J.R.M.30! Posted October 21, 2013 Posted October 21, 2013 Define "Cretin", or is that just an irrational question? ;)
charlie brown Posted October 21, 2013 Author Posted October 21, 2013 I changed "tool," to cretin! I don't know, the guy just creeps me out, for some reason. And, he just acts like such a "Poser," to me. (As I said, your reasons dodn't have to be "rational." LOL) CB
J.R.M.30! Posted October 21, 2013 Posted October 21, 2013 So you mean that you don't want to see John Mayer live? Is that why you changed "tool" to "cretin". What is a poser, and why is it capitalized? Wait I'm confluxed now?
charlie brown Posted October 21, 2013 Author Posted October 21, 2013 You must be confused J.R.M. 30...In the title, it says "NOT" want to see. I would never go see John Mayer, "Live." He's a decent enough player, but, I just can't abide the guy. CB
daveinspain Posted October 21, 2013 Posted October 21, 2013 Can't think of anyone... If someone got famous for playing guitar I'd go check it out if they came to town...
charlie brown Posted October 21, 2013 Author Posted October 21, 2013 Can't think of anyone... If someone got famous for playing guitar I'd go check it out if they came to town... Well, that's a good answer, Dave. I was just curious, as we always talk (and argue) over "who's the best player," or who we just "love" regardless. I just thought it might be interesting to see who we might not be interested in seeing, or listening to...just for a different topic. But, maybe not? CB
Riffster Posted October 21, 2013 Posted October 21, 2013 Define "Cretin", or is that just an irrational question? ;) There is a standard definition for cretin, look it up, the winking smiley face at the end of your post does not make your comment clever. To answer the question I never had an interest to see Dimebag and Pantera, the irrational reason: Pantera is a commercially packaged band for folks that missed the 80's Thrash metal scene and while Dimebag was good he was no better than a lot of guitar players of the genre.
RowdyMoon Posted October 21, 2013 Posted October 21, 2013 Slash...I mean, he can play but that Joey Ramone had a baby with the mad hatter routine is so boring and over rated....just ugh ya know.. ......and the how do I get slash tone threads just drive me nuts..
J.R.M.30! Posted October 21, 2013 Posted October 21, 2013 To what degree is someone stupid or called a "cretin". What I'm getting at is why make blanketed statements about somebody you don't personally know and discredit it by saying it was irrational. :-"
Riffster Posted October 21, 2013 Posted October 21, 2013 ^^why don't you say something coherent once in a while? Are you a troubled person? or perhaps an undeveloped mind? I am not picking on you, but please contribute something to this forum if your activities around here are out of boredom. Do you play guitar by the way?
milod Posted October 21, 2013 Posted October 21, 2013 Well, this may sound horrid, especially to younger folks, but I'm at the point in life where, if I ain't paid to go - I don't. I have to be in enough crowd situations, and I'm "shooting" folks on average 60-80 hours a week at work on average, that if I ain't paid I tend to escape anything along those lines. Some 50 years ago, no I didn't figure it that way. But I've "covered" more than my fair share of local and area "big name" concerts since '66. For all that, I also don't care to go to athletic events under the same rationale. Even with local school sports... maybe if I know the kids and their parents/grandparents, but I've "shot" so much film and now digital that I find myself mentally "clicking" instead of watching, even when I'm not covering stuff. So if I ain't paid, mostly I don't go. m
Izzy Posted October 21, 2013 Posted October 21, 2013 I can't think of many I WOULD want to see. Those I would want to see I'd see for the sheer reason that they're legend and deserve respect, like BB King or Keith Richards, but I don't want to listen to that stuff for more than a few minutes, say 20 and I wouldn't pay to go to a show. Poser or not, it helps if a guitarist sings too...otherwise you're sort of going to see the band not just the guitarist. Jerry Cantrell for example, has Alice in Chains and I'd be into that. If its just Jerry...meh. I'd see John Mayer maybe. Cretin or not, I like his voice and a few of his songs. I love how he plays, as well. I'm not there to hang with the dude, I'm just listening to him and his band, which is made of two other incredibly talented dudes.
EVOL! Posted October 21, 2013 Posted October 21, 2013 easy! Keith Richards.. I would see Keith if he wasn't with the Stones. I find the Stones to be one of the most annoying bands on the planet. Right up there with Katy Perry.
charlie brown Posted October 21, 2013 Author Posted October 21, 2013 And, even if I was tempted, I refuse to pay the insane ticket prices, anymore. Besides, I've already seen all the players/bands, that really interested me. At least, to this point. But, inspite of how I may sound, I DO still try, at least, to keep an open mind, regarding new players/bands. But, sometimes, one will come along that I just can't "warm up" to. And, sometimes, for no "logical" reason. Kinda like when you meet someone, and they just rub you the wrong way, for some odd reason. No big deal, it just happens. CB
Riffster Posted October 21, 2013 Posted October 21, 2013 I would see Keith if he wasn't with the Stones. I find the Stones to be one of the most annoying bands on the planet. I saw the Stones in 1997 at Vanderbilt Stadium, Ron Wood has been the guitar player in that band for a long time...
kidblast Posted October 21, 2013 Posted October 21, 2013 I saw the Stones in 1997 at Vanderbilt Stadium, Ron Wood has been the guitar player in that band for a long time... amen to that.. Keith has become more like a cartoon character as the years go on,,, (IMO of course)
kidblast Posted October 21, 2013 Posted October 21, 2013 Buckethead!!!! yea,, what the hell is up with that anyway.. freakshow..
Rocky4 Posted October 21, 2013 Posted October 21, 2013 The word famous here deserves attention. John Mayer is NOT a famous guitar player. He's a pop star that plays a guitar. When I think of famous, I think of Page, Clapton, Beck, BB King, etc. Sure, we can get into a who's famous for playing guitar argument. But IMO, it's a short list. Not too many I would pass up. On another note, Bonamassa is coming to my area. Tickets start at $83.00!!!!!! Nobody is worth that much money.......NOBODY!
quapman Posted October 21, 2013 Posted October 21, 2013 So had to google a couple names I never heard of before. John Mayer and Buckethead. I would have to say I would watch them both. They are both great players. So I may not care for Mayers pretty boy character but the dude can play. And Buckethead,, wow,,, ok I have no clue what the hell the bucket and mask are about but holy crap,, That guy is one sick player.
quapman Posted October 21, 2013 Posted October 21, 2013 And just to be relevant to the post,, I can't think of anyone I would not want to ever see. If they were free and I didn't have to go very far I would watch anyone. But my concert days are for the most part long done. I refuse to pay crazy prices to see anyone. I have already pretty much completed my bucket list for concerts. And I just don't have the patience to deal with the big crowds anymore. I kinda hate people,, so I stay home alot... lol...
saturn Posted October 22, 2013 Posted October 22, 2013 I don't feel strongly against any players for the most part. I guess the only one who comes to mind would be Tom Morello. I don't really care for his sound effects style of playing and his communist ranting gets on my nerves. So I doubt I would spend my time going to see him play.
kaleb Posted October 22, 2013 Posted October 22, 2013 Even guitar players I'm not so hot on I would still go see. Like, I think Eric Clapton is as overrated as can be, but I'd still go see him if he came to my town. I'll still go see Ted Nugent despite that I don't care for his onstage political rants. I'll still go see KISS despite that I, as a fan, don't agree with putting Thayer and Singer in Frehley and Criss's makeup (I don't make a big deal out of it anymore...man some people can be really brutal on Tommy!) or Gene Simmons's contrived "money grubbing womanizer asshole" shtick. But I would never go see John Mayer...
