61 Re Issue Casino..I can't find one !

Recommended Posts

Anyone steer me to one ??..new or used must be Tan not Sun Burst.

Reissues are out there, now and then.

Here's a REAL Made In USA Vintage one:

OR...try these guys. Last time I was in there, they still had a couple, of the Chinese reissues...but, it's been awhile.

I have 2 new ones. I think I'll keep one of the 2 but I have one that I just don't need it the music room for sure. I had bought the 2nd one for a friend that backed out. Too long a story and I should have gotten his packed & sold a long time ago. Too much to do, too little time to get it done!! [biggrin]

Royal Tan w/ trapeze are the ones I have. Both are as flawless as I could find as I had 5-6 in the house & settled on these two as the keepers. Let me know if interested and what you'd be willing to buy it for.

Well bought 3 Casino's in a month..2 of them just last week.

Some kind of record even for me !

First one is a 1965 Limited Edition Lennon..Nitro finish. 6.4 lb

Second was a Cherry Red 1997 Peerless 6.2 lb

Third 61 Re Issue in Tan 6.2lb

They are all quite different, neck is super fast on the 65 Lennon, reminds me of a mid's 90's 335

I once owned. Build quality is out of this world..I've owned a Terrada built Grestch and this is just as good if not better, the fret work and finish are perfect.

The tone is much thicker from this guitar even played acoustically..it rings forever.

I'm REALLY impressed with it..can't put it down ;-)

The Korean was an impulsive buy, planned to fit a spare Bigsby I have hanging around to get my Gary Clark Jr fix.

I'm not sure I want to spoil it though. It's quite a bright sounding guitar, P90's are much stronger..not got round to measuring them yet..

I was really suprised with the neck profile, a little fuller than the 65, same nut width.

Slots are cut much closer though, may fit new nut in this one.

The 61 is a gorgeous looking thing, much brighter sounding than the other two.

I stuck a new set of EXL 115 on it, a gauge up on the other two..combined with the BIG neck it's a little

more awkward to play and I used to LOVE my Nocaster neck.

I have noticed on both the 61 and 65 the neck angle causes the strings to sit too far away from the bridge pup.

This seems a very commmn problem ..Korean is just the opposite though.

Neck Volume is stronger on both guitar's, I don't like the look of those spacer's so just knock the neck back a bit

to compensate, I do feel I could have even better umph from the bridge P90's though.

Are all the Jap and 61's like this ?

Sorry for length of reply..will try and post pic's !!!

shim. shim hard and shim now. seriously. your casinos and voxes demand it.

the bridge on my elitist casino was noticeably weaker in both volume and tone than the neck pup. at the board's behest, i did some experimentation with cut up pieces of a mouse pad. rolling back the neck to compensate just means both of your pups sound bad. shimming would release their maximum tonal awesomeness, all the more important with your gibson p90s.

i ended up ordering the lollar shims and while i was upset about paying more for shipping than i did for the parts, it was totally worth it. i had the neck raised just a touch, and the bridge went up a about 2-3 times that amount. some pole piece adjusting ensued and now all is well. a balanced and complimentary sound in all positions. very pleased. i had originally intended to swap them out, but after the mods i did i'm ok with the pups for the time being. still curious about it, but it isn't a need anymore, as it once was.

also, i'd be remiss if i didn't point out that your all pickguards fell off, and that the wine red is just the prettiest thing. not a cherry person, but when its dark enough to pass as wine red, oh man. also, are those analog men and way huges i see?

+1 for shimming. I did it on my Elitist and it made a world of difference. I bought the Allparts set, which have a larger footprint than the P90. I traced around the pickup and ground off the extra plastic so it matched the pickup footprint. Looked much better and I think most people wouldn't even notice it's there.

Yes King of Tone, ARDX20 Delay, Comprosser, Green Rhino, Red Llama..You forgot to mention my 1964 AC15 Don't leave him out ;-)

The Casino's sounds..well you can imagine..awesome through it..the EF86 and Casino is a match made in heaven.

I used to have original 1950's P90's in my R6 Goldtop..I raised the bridge pup to good affect.

Also found raising just the pole's only increases volume and not tone..can of thins the tone..or it did on the LP.

I have noted Gary Clarke has them quite high on his Burst Elitist.

Why should this need to be done, if the factory had set the neck correctly in the first place ??

This Casino addiction started after I heard Gary Clarke JR.

Had to have a Cherry Korean..it has it's a character all of it's own.

Think I've found some thing really special with the Casino's.

Thanks again Steve for the heads up on the 61 !

Beer for you bro.
