Motherofpearl Posted October 28, 2013 Posted October 28, 2013 Just wondering how many of you are strictly Gibson players any if you wander into the unknown? I personally have others and love them just as much. How about you?
MissouriPicker Posted October 28, 2013 Posted October 28, 2013 I've got five Gibsons, but I also own other guitars at this time (Garrison, Epi, Lagg). In the past I've owned Martins, Breedloves, Taylors, Fenders, Blue Ridges, and probably a couple dozen other brands I don't recall the names of at the moment. I still tend to yearn for another Martin. Maybe something along the line of the D35 family. Might even go for another HD28. I've owned quite-a-few very nice instruments, but some of them were just not "me." Lots of great guitars out there. You just have to find the one/s you can bond with.
brixa Posted October 28, 2013 Posted October 28, 2013 I've only got 1 gibson - my j45 standard. I've ended up in the martin camp. Got a d28 and the new d18. The d18 is all i've looked for in an acoustic. My only electric is my ric 325/6 like lennon's. I'm thinking of swapping the j45 for a j160e to compliment the ric as the j45 spends most of it's time rattling out beatles acoustic tunes.
RichG Posted October 28, 2013 Posted October 28, 2013 Three Gibsons and three Martins. My current order of favorites are SCSJ and D18GE tied for first. Doesn't mean they sound the same. I like them equally well. Tied for second are all the rest, except the Guild D40 which comes in last in every contest ever waged. Rich
vacamartin Posted October 28, 2013 Posted October 28, 2013 Gibsons, Martins, Recording King, Loar, Austin, Guild............but currently in the "Honeymoon" with my new LG-2ae. They're all terrific, I could never choose only one too keep!
EuroAussie Posted October 28, 2013 Posted October 28, 2013 Strong preferance for Gibsons but I do like also other makers. I own a Martin, and have one Furch which is world class maker. Would love to add a Collings to the stable sometime also.
Joe M Posted October 28, 2013 Posted October 28, 2013 Right now I've got 3 Gibbys and 2 Martins. I also just came home with a beautiful Larrivee D-60. I really have a love/hate relationship with my Gibsons; they're beautiful to look at, sound great, but the slightly wider neck makes them harder for me to play than my Martins, and now the Larrivee, since it also has the smaller 1 11/16 neck, like a lot of Martins, which I prefer over the wider Gibson necks. But, with electrics, nothing but Strats and Teles for me.
kombo Posted October 28, 2013 Posted October 28, 2013 Only own 2 guitars. Love my Gibson J45 and my '78 Guild D35. Many similarities between them, but completely different animals.
jannusguy2 Posted October 28, 2013 Posted October 28, 2013 3 Gibsons and 5 Martins. Maybe adding another Gibson. We'll see who wins the auction!
zombywoof Posted October 28, 2013 Posted October 28, 2013 I cannot see living with Gibson alone. We have four Gibsons in the house. With regard to other guitars, the current players are an Oscar Schmidt-made Galiano jumbo, a Schmidt Stella, and a pre-Gibson Epiphone FT-79. Waiting in the wings needing some TLC are a Regal-made Recording King, a Harmony Sovereign, and an C. Bruno parlor. By the way - check out the rosewood on the Bruno - just freakin' gorgeous.
BluesKing777 Posted October 28, 2013 Posted October 28, 2013 I'm anybody's....but a few Gibsons are here. BluesKing777.
dchristo Posted October 28, 2013 Posted October 28, 2013 Gibsons, Gretschs, Martins, Fenders, Epiphones, Eastmans and a couple of no names 17 total
Rambler Posted October 28, 2013 Posted October 28, 2013 I heart my NRP Delphi vintage steel. And heart is a word I don't use often.
Dave F Posted October 29, 2013 Posted October 29, 2013 Gibsons, Martins, Taylors, Takamine, Fender, Ovation, Hagstrom, Kay. I've found good, some I just did not care for and some not so good in all of them. Some are still here, some are gone, some are going. I which I could get exposed to others but it just doesn't happen around this area. I wish there was enough interest to have a local get together where everyone brings a sampling of nice guitars where we could swap and try out with a mutual respect for each others property. Selection around this area is pretty pathetic and it's hard to form a true opinion.
Motherofpearl Posted October 29, 2013 Author Posted October 29, 2013 Quite a few people I didn't expect have a variety. I too have 2 gibsons a Kopp a Santa Cruz 12 fretter and a Collings 12 Fretter. That Bruno Rosewood is beautiful. JannusGuy is one I didn't expect to have 5 martins though I've noticed in the last 2 years you've sold a few gibsons and added a couple martins. I want a Martin CS D18 12. EA is Furch the same as stonebridge?
MR GIBS Posted October 29, 2013 Posted October 29, 2013 I have two gibsons - an SJ 200 and a J35. Besides I have other guitars but lately I play only the J35. I don't have a Martin (yet). There is no a Martin authorised dealer here in Sofia Bulgaria. I have a guitar Master Luthier friend of mine and he makes guitars for me. Till now he made ma a classical one and also a replica of a Martin 0028 (cedar top/rosewood back&sides). Sounds just fantastic. In the moment my luthier makes a new guitar for me - a fingerstile instrument. When ready I'll show here. So I have 10 guitars and an acoustic bass and I admit that is is a bit too much for me... But the GAS, the GAS...
EuroAussie Posted October 29, 2013 Posted October 29, 2013 EA is Furch the same as stonebridge? Yes, thats correct. Furch is marketed as Stonebridge in Nth Anerica.
bobouz Posted October 29, 2013 Posted October 29, 2013 Acoustics: >Five Gibsons, counting the '22 mandolin & '66 Epi Cortez. >Two Martins. Electrics: >Ten Gibsons >Five Epiphones Had lots of Guilds, Gibsons, & Martins in the past, along with many low-buck vintage archtops & parlor guitars.
geeterpicker Posted October 29, 2013 Posted October 29, 2013 I bought my very first Gibson guitar this year in January. I've been playing for 48 years. It used to be you were either a Martin or a Gibson person, when it came to acoustics. I've had my D-28 for 35 years. I've always loved J-45s and always figured that would be the Gibson for me whenever I got one. Instead, I wanted something small, because age has hampered my reach somewhat,so the L-00 fit the bill for me. But all that aside, the guitar I play the most is a Huss and Dalton CM Custom that I purchased used 6 years ago. That guitar has all the elements I look for - tone, power, easy of playing, clarity, and comfort. I rarely play my dreads anymore. The H&D and L-00 work much better for me.
Murph Posted October 29, 2013 Posted October 29, 2013 I have a 91 Tele tri-burst. It's a fine guitar and I gigged it for a while, doing Country stuff. I prefer Gibsons, humbuckers, and the scale length. So, I gigged many a Country gig with an SG. I also used it in a Blues Band. For the Rock Bands it was always a no-brainer, but my ES-339 is the bomb.
Jayyj Posted October 29, 2013 Posted October 29, 2013 There have been times when I've only owned Gibsons, but these days my main player is a custom made Fylde Goodfellow, and I have a second Goodfellow and a nice '36 Martin 0-17 that get regular use. I still have my '26 L-1, '29 TG-1 and '39 L-00 - none of those are going anywhere - and a mandolin and a couple of electrics to keep the Gibson side of things well represented.
tulver Posted October 29, 2013 Posted October 29, 2013 Gibson AJ, Martin 000, Collings OM. I like the Gibby best for singing with. The Martin's a finger picker, the Collings an all- arounder.
MorrisrownSal Posted October 29, 2013 Posted October 29, 2013 I have a Gibson sjtv and a Martin d15. The one Martin I love more than any other is the M21 Steve Earle. If I could have only two guitars, it would be my Gibby and the M21. But the d15 is goin nowhere, so I'm good. I also have a Mexican tele.
