How snug a fit is the Epiphone Dot in the official, Epiphone case?

I've had an Epiphone Dot in a Thomann ES-335 case for about 10 months now, and I've never been happy with the one-to-two inches of movement at each end of the case which could easily result in the headstock or body being subject to impact if it was dropped.

Consequently, I'm thinking of getting an official Epiphone case, but I'll be damned if I can find a nearby store which has both a Dot and the official case in stock.

Can anybody comment on whether it's a snug, tight fit? That's all I really want to know.

It doesn't exactly answer your question, but I got a nice tweed case with my Xaviere XV-900 from guitarfetish. My Dot, which I didn't have a case for, is just built better than the Xavi, so I tried putting it in the Xavi's case. Fits quite well, very snug, it ain't moving a millimeter. Also comes in traditional black and faux ostrich skin.

It is not very snug until the hinges and hasps are locked in place. When that is done, there is zero movement of the guitar in the case. The "fuzz" of the fabric on the inside of the case surrounds the guitar, so it fits with a little wiggle. No other or better explanation. "It fits like a glove", is a good description. [smile], maybe 1/2 inch "play" at the head stock. When all 4 hinges are locked in place, there is absolutely no "play" of the guitar inside of the case. It is held firmly in place. [thumbup]

Thanks both!

Mine is definitely sliding when the case is closed. I can feel it when I tip it. :(

So, I'll be picking up the official case now..

Interesting info about the Xavier case though. i'll check them out if I ever come across a store which sells them.

I'll agree with Crust.

I have a Dot I got from Sweetwater last spring (with the latest electronics upgrades, I believe) and one of the new "arched" Epi cases. I'd call it as perfect a fit as possible.

Milod...you definitely need to photograph your collection, that you keep talking about!

We need Guitar Porn, here! [biggrin] Maybe you have shown it, but "I" missed it,

apparently. You're a photojournalist, so I know you can crank out some decent photos,

of your "babies!" How about it?! [thumbup][biggrin]

CB....

Sheesh, you're talking to a guy who intentionally leaves cameras at home when he ain't paid.

<grin> Finally some time in the '90s when I was doing a second batch of "travel," my lady determined that was horrid and got a point-and-shoot of the era instead of our Nikons that did, at least, stay home.

fauxtronic,

Here's a pic of my Dot and the Epi case that came with it. It's a pretty snug fit (I have to take the strap off to actually close and latch the case). And yes, it closes with the Bigsby on it, just move the arm so it's pointing toward the strap button.

Hope this helps as well.

GuitarFetish is online only. I feel a little traitorous suggesting it on an Epiphone board. I imagine it's heavier than the Epi case, and I doubt it's built as well. Probably worth the extra bucks for the Epi - as is the case with Epi vs. Xavi guitars.

I just bought a new Epiphone case for my new Riviera P93 Custom. I got it from Sweetwater online for all of $80, including shipping. They list for around $135.

It fits a the case little snug, which is what I wanted. My Dot lives in a 1980's Gibson case for a 335, but it is NOT snug and I believe I will get it a new Epiphone case of its own. These guitars are very good instruments and they do not belong in a gig bag, and they should not rattle around in a poorly fitted case.

Epiphone hard cases are first rate.

FWIW, I NEVER use guitar stands. My guitars are either being played or they are in their case.
