bigfootdg Posted December 28, 2008 Posted December 28, 2008 So here is the thing, I dont know much about Gibson Acoustics other than the fact that they are the best. I just discovered that Bozeman is only a little more than a one day drive from here, Ottawa. Do they accept visitors, should I go, can I buy a guitar right from the factory, these are all things that seem interesting to me, So if anyone has thoughts or opinions on these the wouls be appreciated thanks
bigfootdg Posted December 28, 2008 Author Posted December 28, 2008 Sorry, just realized it meant 24 hours, not a day worth of driving. zits two in the morning im tired mistakes will be made, still it does seem like a neast idea for a road trip.
ksdaddy Posted December 28, 2008 Posted December 28, 2008 Gibson won't sell you a guitar directly but there's a music store about 2 miles away from the factory called Music Villa that will tie themselves in knots to help you. If it's humanly possible to do, Music Villa will do it for you.
guitarstrummer Posted December 28, 2008 Posted December 28, 2008 It is possible to arrange for a tour, but I believe they only give them on Fridays and you need to call and schedule it in advance.
onewilyfool Posted December 28, 2008 Posted December 28, 2008 Well I just checked the Google map directions from my home near San Francisco, to Bozeman and found a nice little route. West through Reno, Nevada, on through Winnemucca Nevada, onwards and NE to Twin Falls Idaho, skirting Yellowstone Ntl. Park, and onwards and northwards to Bozeman. 1,046 miles and about 16 hours and 40 minutes of direct driving....hmmmmm not bad......
bigfootdg Posted December 28, 2008 Author Posted December 28, 2008 Thanks for the info folks, now to just try and make it happen
Wayne Posted December 28, 2008 Posted December 28, 2008 Thanks for the info folks' date=' now to just try and make it happen [/quote'] You are seriously considering a drive across the plains in winter to buy a Gibson? You dont have to drive to MT to buy a Gibson, and will probably save hundreds on gas...The great plains are a seriously unpleasant place to be in a whiteout.
bigfootdg Posted December 28, 2008 Author Posted December 28, 2008 No, it will probably never happen but I think it would be fun. It would be like going to Scotland to get some Scotch.
jefleppard Posted December 29, 2008 Posted December 29, 2008 i wouldn't drive to scotland, either. really though, if a road trip is in your head, try toronto. the 12th fret there has loads of old/vintage gibsons and the long and mcquade on bloor carries almost the entire line of new gibby acoustics. there are also a couple of cool resale shops to look up and steve's on queen is always fun.
onewilyfool Posted December 29, 2008 Posted December 29, 2008 CUNK....what is the drive from Windsor to Toronto? How many miles? Thank god you are not any closer....lol....you would be there ALL the time...
bs Posted December 29, 2008 Posted December 29, 2008 I say do the road trip, but take a week, or better yet two, and dawdle along the way. Definitely don't go in the winter though. May would be a good time, or late September - not quite so many tourists when school is in. You should still plan for weather. I got snowed on up around Yellowstone at the end of August one year, but that's a couple of thousand feet higher altitude than Bozeman.
jefleppard Posted December 29, 2008 Posted December 29, 2008 CUNK....what is the drive from Windsor to Toronto? How many miles? Thank god you are not any closer....lol....you would be there ALL the time... ha! i would be, too! i'm about 3 hrs from toronto. its tempting. very. i love it. a great city all around. three great music stores, a lot of great vintage/resale places, fantastic restaurants, tonnes (metric) of live music venues and the greatest hockey team on earth. i'll get up there soon. i'm itching for a road trip.
jannusguy Posted December 29, 2008 Posted December 29, 2008 i love toronto. been there 3 times. first rate city and people. think i'm due for a trip (when it warms up).
jefleppard Posted December 29, 2008 Posted December 29, 2008 i love toronto. been there 3 times. first rate city and people. think i'm due for a trip (when it warms up). if you want a chaperone, call me. i'll go whenever you're ready. gas-o-holics gotta stick together.
jefleppard Posted December 29, 2008 Posted December 29, 2008 and another thing, bfd....lol. nashville seems like a great trip, too. all that history, gruhn's, gibby plant (electric) and a sick amount of live music. i've just sold myself, here i go!
bigfootdg Posted December 29, 2008 Author Posted December 29, 2008 Cunk MOst of us here in Ottawa dont care for Toronto, (or maybe its just me, to crowded), Ive got Steves and a LandM here also, hate Steves, staff are all Jerks. Im not the best player in the world so they look at me as if I have no right touhing the guitars. And dont get me started on Gruhns, I may just pack up and leave now to get there. Nashville is certainly on my list of places to visit.
wonderful remark Posted December 29, 2008 Posted December 29, 2008 haha most people in Canada don't care for Toronto... and the Leafs..
bs Posted December 29, 2008 Posted December 29, 2008 the greatest hockey team on earth. That would be Detroit. I thought you were talking about Toronto.
wonderful remark Posted December 29, 2008 Posted December 29, 2008 Detroit????????????????????????????????????????????????????? Try Vancouver and Calgary(as much as I hate the flames... that C of red is impressive..)
onewilyfool Posted December 30, 2008 Posted December 30, 2008 Cunk....have you ever been to Folkway Music in Guelph Ont?.......I just drool at the quality of guitars they get there.....That's ANOTHER place I'm glad I am not living near.....lol..... http://www.folkwaymusic.com/
Wayne Posted December 30, 2008 Posted December 30, 2008 Im not the best player in the world so they look at me as if I have no right touhing the guitars. I just love that treatment, dont you. I was Gibson shopping at a shop that's been mentioned on this board several times. I was so happy because I finally found a place with lots of Gibsons AND (more importantly) closed rooms where i could play without anyone hearing how much I suck, but the sales punk wouldn't leave me alone to play. I'm pretty sure the manager/owner put him up to it though. Finally I got exasperated and just left and bought a used guitar online. I guess they feel they have to protect their investment, but it also blew the sale.
