Rocky4
I just got steady power, gas, water, etc from Sundays tornado. This is what my neighborhood looks like... The above picture was taken on my way home Sunday. I was at work. I learned that Washington had been hit and my wife texted me the same news. From there, I lost contact until a coworker was able to reach her. She said the house had minimal damage, but the neighborhood was gone. I rushed home and drove until debris blocked the road.I took this picture running from my car to my house. I had a window busted, siding damage, roof damage, etc. All minimal compared to the north end of my street..... Pictures don't come close to the devastation seen first hand. This is where I drive everyday, go for walks, ride my bike, etc. I have trouble navigating around because the landmarks are gone. Amazingly, only one death occurred. Cell phone alerts went off 15 minutes before the tornado hit, giving everybody a chance to take cover. The are things that stick to me. Most people were at church, I'm sure this saved many lives Cell phones were useless, but people could communicate with Facebook on smart phones The amount of debris is amazing, Shingles, plywood, 2X4s, Insulation piled up everywhere Belongings were found in Chicago I saw a truck sideways wrapped around a tree Monster oaks were uprooted Gawkers, onlookers, etc made a bad situation 100 times worse Police and military are at every intersection going into the affected are, you don't get in if your license doesn't say Washington, and even then you might not get in. My wife and I were denied access Monday after showering at in laws, We had to park and walk three miles to our house. The volunteer work is unbelievable. Water, food, A local hardware store was bringing on truckloads of plywood, nails, tarps, etc. All free for who needed it. Churches lead the way for those needing shelter. Setting up free meals, clothing, etc. Looting was reported within hours of the storm
charlie brown
Rocky, I have family, in the East Peoria/Washington area, and was quite concerned, for their safety. Was relieved to hear they were all fine. But, they had several good friends, that lost their homes, to that awful storm! So, my Best Wishes to you, your family, and friends there! surfpup
Wow! Amazing photos - and scary. Glad you were relatively unscathed, and it's great to hear that resources were there for your neighbors. Not generally a big fan of violence, but I think I'd shoot a looter given the chance - amazing to me that occurs in situations like this.

quapman
OMG Brother,, what a horrific experience. So thankful to hear you are ok and spared the devastation. My coworker is Philippine. Her family's homestead was behind a volcano opposite the direction of the storm, and was spared the devastation. She explained how their good fortunes were bitter sweet in how they were spared only to see their neighbors devastated. I have no words. I have no comprehension of what you are going through. Stay strong and help your neighbors.
Searcy
My god Rocky! Glad you're OK. I haven't seen anything like that since Andrew. Words can't describe the feeling. As for looters. A well armed neighborhood watch will help there.

Riffster
Oh dude sorry to see this, I am glad you are ok. We get warnings here in the south side of Nashville but we are never hit because of the hills, I curse every time I have to mow the grass on a slope but I have to remind myself how we did not flood or get hit by tornadoes. IanHenry
So sorry to see what's happened to your town Rocky. How do you manage to get insurance over there with all the storms you seem to get? I would have thought property insurance was something of a hot potato to the company's. Regards, Ian.
pippy
Incredible scenes, Rocky, and I'm glad you and yours are OK but terrible news for the other part of your neighbourhood. Good to hear help is being offered up so generously and a +1 for the incomprehension regarding looters at a time like that. Hope everyone and everything gets all the aid they require. P. I feel sorry for Your people and hope Your community will recover all that has been damaged. The only good thing that can come out of such disasters, that it can make a community stronger. badbluesplayer
Holy moly, Rocky. I'm glad you're safe and your house is still o.k. Y'all are lucky you weren't home. Just try to take it easy and catch your breath. It might take a long time to clean up and get back to normal. But things will be better and will eventually get back on track. deeman
I'm from Chicago, my local church is taking donations for you guys, I was planning on getting a few cases of bottled water. Would there be a more needed item than that i could donate? It's just terrible what happened. We got some bad wind gusts up north that actually blew over my fence, but i'm thankful nothing more happened. My thoughts are with you brother.
