Lime Posted December 28, 2008 Posted December 28, 2008 I don't have a camera, so I can't give pics, but i can give info. INFO: Cherry red Color, 2 pickups, fairly small pick-guard (rounded on bottom, pointed at the top, straight on side.), cable port on front of body, Gibson logo printed in black on head, serial number stamped onto back of head: 514454, has MADE IN USA stamped below, tuning heads are grey metal which say "Gibson Deluxe" imprinted into the back of them. Looks sort of like a Les Paul but is not hollow in the center (completely solid) and the strings go down into circles which are in a diagonal line. ??? I was told it was a Blueshawk but I don't think it is.
rmngretsch14 Posted December 28, 2008 Posted December 28, 2008 Well here's what I can do for you, I couldn't get a model on it but according to the guitar dater project Your guitar was made at the Kalamazoo or Nashville Plant , USA approximately in: 1974 or 1975 that's very vague, I know, but you are right by the description that doesnt sound like a blueshawk. There is one other option that doesnt sound good, it could be a fake, but I dont think so it's likely just a rare model or I could just be an idiot at deciphering your description
Lime Posted December 28, 2008 Author Posted December 28, 2008 okay, i'll try to get a pic up as soon as possible so that I can be sure.
KSG_Standard Posted December 28, 2008 Posted December 28, 2008 If it's all maple body and neck, then it's probably an L6 deluxe...does it look something like this?
youngchevy Posted December 28, 2008 Posted December 28, 2008 If it's all maple body and neck' date=' then it's probably an L6 deluxe...does it look something like this? [img']http://i400.photobucket.com/albums/pp86/kellyg7809/30U-9020_body-front.jpg[/img] I'll say the same your description says l6-s deluxe
Lime Posted December 29, 2008 Author Posted December 29, 2008 That looks exactly like it, except the pickups are grey and the pickguard is rounded off on the bottom. But those are just things that don't really affect what model it is, right? I was told it was rare, but since it was identified so quickly, I don't think it is. Is it?

Is it?[/quote'] I don't know if they are rare or not, but in my 35 years of playing guitar, I've never seen one in real life. There was a thread here on the forums a while back regarding L6 guitars, some folks here have knowledge about them.
elantric Posted December 29, 2008 Posted December 29, 2008 If it has a Rotary switch and rounded Pick guard - sounds like you have a transition model - here's a 1st generation L6-S http://www.robwesley.com/guitars/listings/Gibson%20L6-S%20Custom%201975/
lpdeluxe Posted December 29, 2008 Posted December 29, 2008 "Rare" in this case doesn't mean "valuable;" it means "unpopular."
gearbasher Posted December 29, 2008 Posted December 29, 2008 Here's an L6-S on ebay: http://cgi.ebay.com/Gibson-Vintage-1974-1975-L-6S-Midnight-Special-Guitar_W0QQitemZ250349501732QQihZ015QQcategoryZ33040QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

The fretboard and head look like that, the pickguard is like that and the pickups are like that. However, the color is Dark Red, not Cream.
Lime Posted February 9, 2009 Author Posted February 9, 2009 UPDATE: This is a picture of it: http://www.guitarsandeffects.com/images/j15new_088.jpg Well, it's a picture of the exact same model and color. So, IS it a Midnight Special or a regular L6?
