TheJman Posted December 29, 2008 Posted December 29, 2008 Hey guys, I just got a Morley ABY switch so I can run my 73 Fender Super Reverb and my Marshall Combo. I got everything setup and working great except that the Marshall has a very serious buzz sound and the Fender has a slight one. The packaging for the switch said that that is very common when you put to grounded amps together like that. (It also recommended to go to a website for ways to fix it, but all it did was plug a $100 product.) Does anybody know of a way to fix the problem??? I'm not very smart when it comes to this kinda stuff, so any advice would be helpful. Thanks in advance and God bless!
ALIEN8 Posted December 29, 2008 Posted December 29, 2008 You have a ground loop problem, and they can be very difficult to solve. I would return the Morley and buy the Radial Enineering product... it has the ability to fix this problem built in.
RichCI Posted December 29, 2008 Posted December 29, 2008 One thing you can try is changing the ground on one of the amps; the Super Reverb should have a switch for that on the back panel. I've never used an amp switcher like that so I can't say for sure if it will help but it's an easy enough experiment.
TheJman Posted December 29, 2008 Author Posted December 29, 2008 I checked out the Radial Engineering web page and it looks like exactly what I need. Do you know if guitarcenter carries Radial Engineering products?
MikeRom Posted December 29, 2008 Posted December 29, 2008 Are they both plugged into the same electrical circuit? Same wall socket?
deepblue Posted December 29, 2008 Posted December 29, 2008 Radial Enineering product... it has the ability to fix this problem built in. True that! Thats what I use and its whisper quiet. Not cheap, but the best never is.
TheJman Posted December 29, 2008 Author Posted December 29, 2008 I've had them both on the same circuit and on completely different circuits and it still had the same problem.
TheJman Posted December 29, 2008 Author Posted December 29, 2008 Where can you buy the Radial Engineering stuff at?
RichCI Posted December 29, 2008 Posted December 29, 2008 True that! Thats what I use and its whisper quiet. Not cheap' date=' but the best never is. [img']http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c231/Toronto_Ontario/Tonebone.jpg[/img] If that's just a ground lift, he should already have that on the back of his Super Reverb which, I assume, does the same thing. The switch on the pedal is probably handy for amps that don't have that feature built in though.

TheJman Posted December 29, 2008 Author Posted December 29, 2008 The Radial Engineering switch that I was looking at was the BigShot ABY True Bypass Switcher. Would that do the trick?
RichCI Posted December 29, 2008 Posted December 29, 2008 The Radial Engineering switch that I was looking at was the BigShot ABY True Bypass Switcher. Would that do the trick? I don't know. I would try changing the ground switch on your Super Reverb before you go dropping 2-4 times as much money as you spent on the Morley pedal.
TheJman Posted December 29, 2008 Author Posted December 29, 2008 Yeah I'm gonna do that for sure. Thanks for the advice by the way.
RichCI Posted December 29, 2008 Posted December 29, 2008 You're welcome. I hope it works and you save yourself some money. =)
Homz Posted December 29, 2008 Posted December 29, 2008 I've got the Morley too and it works great for me. Follow Rich's advice. It will save you money.
TheJman Posted December 31, 2008 Author Posted December 31, 2008 The ground swith on the fender did the trick. Thanks for all the help guys. You saved me some cash and alot of trouble
TheJman Posted December 31, 2008 Author Posted December 31, 2008 Not trying to brag but my rig sounds great!!! I love how the two sounds mix like they do.
surfpup Posted December 31, 2008 Posted December 31, 2008 Two amps are always better than one. Much fuller. Stereo rules!
TheJman Posted December 31, 2008 Author Posted December 31, 2008 You are right man. I can't believe how much fuller the sound is.
surfpup Posted December 31, 2008 Posted December 31, 2008 Especially when one amp has something the other lacks or at least a different character.
TheJman Posted December 31, 2008 Author Posted December 31, 2008 That's what i like about the setup. The bluesy tone of the Fender mixed with the overdrive of the Marshall is great. I can't wait to gig with it
