Where is the GOR sub-forum?

I was wondering if there was a specific section for us GOR owners to exchange topics.

Unless it is considered a "Les Paul"? But then it doesn't say "Les Paul" on the neck like the newer Robots edition at 50% the price.

Then what the heck is it? Where should it be discussed?

LOL, I will be waiting for the 1,500$ version. I got shafted once too many with the GOR.

Since the Gibson Robot was based on the Les Paul Studio model, it would be appropriate to discuss it in the Les Paul

sub-forum.

Alternately, since the Robot is the Dark Fire's progenitor, we could post Robot topics in the Dark Fire sub-forum...and then see where Mike moves them! <g>

Lastly, since Mike is a nice guy and is usually responsive to our needs (the Gibson Lounge is one example), how about we ask him directly?

Mike seems to be on a long Christmas break. I'm sure he will show up once the dust settles around here...

I sent Mike a PM regarding a sub-forum for the GOR...no reply yet. <g>

LOL, he must be having nightmares about DF forum members chasing him with cracked MCK knobs =P~

In response to Alouf's request ( and others) for a GOR forum.. One has been created. Please let me know if there are any issues.

Say, Alouf: Why don't you go ahead and upgrade your Robot? I'm going to do that with mine. Who cares if we don't get everthing the Dark Fire has (I doubt we would because we have different pickups). Don't you like the pickups on the Robot? Or the 50's neck? The finish? Even the way it's built? I do... I'm keeping my Robot (and I actually have a chance to dump it without any loss of $$ if I wanted to do so). I think it is a definite contrast to the Dark Fire.

I only mention this because I get the impression you've written things here about your Robot that sound like negatives; or that you might be unhappy with it. I think the Robot is a great guitar. Then again, if you don't like something, why not dump it?

--------------

It is my judgement that the electronics of both the Robot and the Dark Fire are mainly just differences in firmware (except, of course, for the battery and the tuners -- but these are minor things, well, not so minor... but these aren't the things I speaking about here).

I'm speaking strictly concept of the features/functions. So they got a new MCK. I see it as just a better display of funtionality that was already built into the firmware model. In my experences with designing new hardware/firmware products, differences, like I judge between the two firmwares in the guitars, aren't that much... So, some code may have been added -- but I of the opinion that most of it was probably already there (just not "turned on"). It takes months to create a design like this (software-wise). Such a "vast difference" certainly was not created during the last 4 to 6 months between the Robot and the Dark Fire! Nope, I'm quite sure it's been a steady evolution. That guy Chris has been working on this thing for, what, almost a decade did I read? Yep, the data structures were mostly already there.

When new hardware comes along, much of it is based upon what came prior. So, firmware-wise, only tweaks need to be made to accomodate the new hardware and maybe a little new code.

Well, this is just my opinion and my attempt to generalize tersely ... probably fraught with all kinds of error.

---------------------

The main point I think I want to say is: The differences between the Robot and Dark Fire CERTAINLY can be served with a single forum because both guitars have (virtually/conceptually) the same hardware inside. Man! I think we have great Robot guitars and NOW I think we should upgrade them... Maybe do it again in ten years too, huh? #-o/

Hey RS, I might have given the wrong impression. I love my GOR!

What I don't like is a few quirks (color, Gstring won't tune properly) and the fact that a few months after I paid 3,000$ for it, newer and better versions came along for half the price.

Other than that I love my GOR :D

And it needs it's own forum because the DF electronics are different than the GOR's.

The same technique/tricks/tips will not apply to both guitars, and there is no need to clutter and pollute the DF's forum with GOR's questions and vice-versa. Or else, we would have just had a single sub-forum for all the Gibson guitars :P

Hmmm.. Yup, I suppose so. Personally, I don't really see a difference between the two as far as the "end results" of the electro-mechanical. Glad to hear you like your guitar. For me, even though the Blueburst is very beautiful, I just never really liked it. I thought it was a bit "girly" and a bit "too bright" for me. So, I got rid of it for a darker finish I liked better.

The one I liked most was the silverburst ;)

The new Desert ones are pretty nice as well, although they seem to be selling at a tad higher price.

The ONLY Silverburst I was able to locate between Seattle, OR, CA, and AZ was in Phoenix AZ. I went there because I was seriously considering getting it. I held out for it, actually. But then I was there holding in my hands; trying it out, etc. Man! It was so "Blah". It surprised me that I reacted like that because I had thought it was the one for me. Nope... Turned out Metallic Purple was it.

Now I know, it sounds so "Hello Kitty", or something that only Prince would use. But, it is better looking than the Gibson photos -- a sort of dark red with the blue that makes the purple color. And, it was darker, less flashy than the Metallic Green or Metallic Red, which I was able to see in San Bernardino and over there in Oxnard, CA.

Frankly, I had to limit myself to either the: Blue silverburst; Metallic Purple; Metallic Green; Metallic Red; or the Ebony Silverburst. Why? Because all others after those were simply not built with the same quality! Nope, look it up yourself. All the others are... cheaper materials...

You know, this Robot is really a "Les Paul Studio". My present research is telling me that this Dark Fire is built more like a "Les Paul Standard", though Gibson has actually said to me that it is something else entirely new. Anyway, even if they cost-reduce the Dark Fire (and there's no guarante that they will), I cannot see them reducing the price of a "LP Standard" all that much. Do you? MAYBE as much as $500 to $800 at most would come off, if the finish of the cost-reduced deal was similar to DF. But, not if the finish was better.
