Alouf Posted December 30, 2008 Posted December 30, 2008 So LPR's MSRP is 3,999$. DF's MSRP is less then 3,500$. How do Gibson justify charging more for the less innovative guitar? Is the DF considered somewhat inferior to the LPR?
Cat Daddy Posted December 30, 2008 Posted December 30, 2008 So LPR's MSRP is 3' date='999$. DF's MSRP is less then 3,500$. How do Gibson justify charging more for the less innovative guitar? Is the DF considered somewhat inferior to the LPR? [/quote'] As for my guitar <and all Dark Fires>' date=' a "prototype" (unusual situation), Gibson (Customer Service) says that, "the guitars are not offically sequenced" but that my, particular, guitar was shipped out on 16 Dec. This is true because I have the box! It shows that the guitar was shipped out from Nashville, TN on 16 Dec FEDEX Overnight to my local (Tukwila, WA) dealer. It arrived on 17 Dec at 10:00 AM. They called me shortly after it arrived. I picked up the guitar at 02:00PM on the 17th. The dealer simply opened the box to insure that everything was shipped properly... The box also shows the MRSP as $4299 and a case as listed MRSP $200.[/quote'] Are you sure that you're not confusing the Dark Fire's Minimum Advertised Price (MAP) with its Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price (MSRP)? Cat Daddy
kursal Posted December 30, 2008 Posted December 30, 2008 They could have reduced the MSRP to boost sales at launch. I've seen that done a few times.
Alouf Posted December 30, 2008 Author Posted December 30, 2008 Are you sure that you're not confusing the Dark Fire's Minimum Advertised Price (MAP) with its Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price (MSRP)? Cat Daddy I remember seeing the MSRP for the DF is "less then 3,500$" on the DF website itself.
elantric Posted December 30, 2008 Posted December 30, 2008 Is it the finish? I have never seen a Robot, but if the Robot has a full hand rubbed Gloss finish on Front, Sides, Back, Neck (like my '74 LP Standard) - this costs $$ Only the Top Face of headstock and Maple Top on Dark Fire have a Gloss finish - everywhere else is a but rough - rather like a Firebrand = less cost, but more tone.
ajthethird Posted December 30, 2008 Posted December 30, 2008 When I purchased mine, the MSRP was well over $4,000. (I think it was $4,600). The price was around $3,400 from sam ash in NY.
niemepet Posted December 30, 2008 Posted December 30, 2008 I remember seeing the MSRP for the DF is "less then 3' date='500$" on the DF website itself.[/quote'] You remember right. DF MSRP is 3500$. And the GOR's MSRP year ago was 4000$. I thought the reason for very pricey product was this... "The company made it very clear at the time that the guitar was a prototype, and that anyone that purchased the product would be investing money in the revised model to be released at a later date." (Source: http://www.strumstrum.com/2008/11/08/gibson-announces-the-robot-2-dark-fire/) ...but I might be loosing my mind. ;)

What the *** is this ****** I am pissed every time I see this excerpt because I sure as heck was NOT aware that I was buying a PROTOTYPE!!!
icing777 Posted December 30, 2008 Posted December 30, 2008 What the *** is this ****** I am pissed every time I see this excerpt because I sure as heck was NOT aware that I was buying a PROTOTYPE!!! I smell a class law suite if Gibson comes out with a better product for less $$$.....
Alouf Posted December 30, 2008 Author Posted December 30, 2008 I smell a class law suite if Gibson comes out with a better product for less $$$..... LOL! Nah, I am Canadian. We didn't fully develop this whole suing mentality yet. So I am just pissed about that prototype thingy. On a side note, there is an idiot on eBay selling his GOR for 7,000$ USD..he has been trying to sell it for the last 12 months (same auction, same price)...so far he spent over 100$ in eBay fees. So I sent him a message telling him that he should lower his price to a realistic value, and I got blacklisted and banned from buying anything from his store...EVER! I won't be able to sleep tonight.
