gplayer100 Posted December 30, 2008 Posted December 30, 2008 I have been following the dialogue here and I am put off by the tone of some of the posters to this forum. Some people are clearly having problems with this product. I have also read that some people are not having problems and love the product. Stating either is helpful to all. I also think a company needs to stand behind its product. 1. I have read that Gibson has stopped shipping and manufacturing this product until more information is gained on the initial complaints. 2. I have read that Gibson has personally called every purchaser of the product to see if there were problems and they could help. 3. I read that purchasers of the product could return the product, or have it sent in for repair at Gibson's cost. 4. I have read the blogs detailing the development efforts and issues that were being dealt with well before the guitar shipped. Respectfully, I think Gibson has been very supportive of its customers. Frankly, I do not know of any high tech manufacturer that has done this much to support their customers. These efforts are enormously expensive for the company when given a very small amount of product that was shipped. In fact, the company severely reduced the amount of product shipped to try and insure al products were outstanding. Does Microsoft do this for Vista? Try calling its customer service line. Try calling customer service at Sony or Panasonic sometime (which I have done). What do other companies do? I too am disappointed this introduction was not perfect. However, I for one am excited to see any company try to improve the state of the art and take this risk. I appreciate all for taking the time for sharing both their problems and their praise. My 2 cents.
GuitarKen Posted December 30, 2008 Posted December 30, 2008 Thanks for your comments. I also have been disturbed by the tone of some of these rants, and am very happy to have a US company still in business to buy from (and complaint to!!) Everything else is overseas and support is very difficult. Last summer I bought a computer and some very expensive audio equipment for my boat, all very big name companies, and you would not believe the run around I received. I have not yet bought my Dark Fire, but will soon.
loaded70 Posted December 30, 2008 Posted December 30, 2008 I got my Dark Fire two days ago (#323) and I cannot stop playing it. The P-90h is super clean, and the Chameleon Tones are quite varied. No problems here with my MCK. Also, my DF has a gorgeous flame top (guess I'm one of the lucky ones). I don't think we will know the possibilities of this guitar until Gibson ships out the RIP's and software.

I have been playing mine (#1021) for about a week and found no problem. Someone complained that P90H was noisy. But mine is super clean without any hum. I'm using Mesa Express 5:25. I also play a regular Strat and hear its typical hum with the same setting. So I think at least my P90H is quiet. I would buy this guitar even without any bells and whistles just for the play feel and the tone. It is that good...

Giraku Posted December 30, 2008 Posted December 30, 2008 Is it much better than your typical LP? in which perspective? I think it depends what you seek in a guitar. To me, the combination of P90H and Burstbucker 3 is a tonal heaven. As for the playability, it is on par with 2008 Standard LP (asymmetric and PLEKed neck). Electronics are surely additional goodies as far as they are working. And I must be pretty lucky because my MCK does not have any problem discussed here at the forum. As someone mentioned somewhere, MCK needs to be pushed all the way in (seems like there are 2 subtle stops/clicks on the way going fully depressed) so that it rolls smoothly as a regular tone pot. Gibson customer service called me yesterday and told me (after inquiring my satisfaction level) that the RIP kit will be shipped in 2 weeks time. So far, I am completely satisfied with this purchase.
