Steve Sgro
I hope someone can answer this for me. I am getting a little concerned. I ordered a Gibson Les Paul Studio Premium Plus from Guitar Center in November 2007. It is now 3 months later and I still do not have it. It is the one with transparent amber finish. I didn't think this would be a special order guitar. Its one of the standard three colors available. Is it normal to wait this long for a guitar? I keep calling Guitar Center and they say I am at the mercy of the Gibson factory. When I ordered it back in November the salesman said it might take as long as two months. After two months I went to the store to check on it. They then said it was showing up in their computer for 2/10/08. Well that has passed and I am getting annoyed. Anyone else have an experience similar? Am I just to anxious?
Space Pup
A friend of mine ordered a Fender 65 Strat Closet Classic from GC and it took almost 4 months to arrive. It's my guess that GC waits untill they have a certain dollar amont before they place orders knowing they can just blame the company for any slow orders. If Gibson makes guitars in the order the requests come in, it may also depend on when your request was received. So if GC didn't place the order until sometime in December and they told you it would take two momnths, you may still have a few more weeks to wait. Good Luck! Mark
Hey Steve, Did you pay for it in full? I wanted a cherry Casino but all GC had was a natural finish.so I bought the natural and they ordered me a cherry. 3 weeks later my cherry showed up. My point is. First ,you should have a loaner, second, if your in the system as paid it tends to have more weight then a deposit. I am assuming you bought it from a GC store not internet. I have known guys waiting much longer then you and it is up to the factory and allocations. I went on line and there were cherry casinos everywhere but the store could not get them. Go figure. Riffster
I have an Explorer (natural color) on order from Music 123 fully paid since December, the backorered date keeps getting pushed back over and over. My guess is that Gibson is just not making them right now, when I contacted Gibson their response really did not answer my question. Kinda like, if we had it we would ship it... Since I bought the guitar for 20% off I don't want to give up just yet. I do not know how Gibson works, I mean I am not sure if they make batches of guitars at the time, I would guess making the same exact guitar 10 times over would get the assembly line more focused. Ah what do I know. I hope you get your guitar soon...
Steve Sgro
Wow, Thanks for the replies everyone. At least I am not the only one here. I ordered the guitar in the store, not the internet. The strange thing about this is if you go to the Guitar Center Online Store, the Studio with Trans Amber finish is labeled "In Stock". As far as how I purchased it, I used Guitar Center's Credit Card incentive in store. Buy now / Pay later without finance charges for a year. Although I could have, I didn't put down a deposit. I haven't made any payments yet. I figured I would wait until I received the guitar. Maybe that isn't a good idea.
dslyecix
You could call them and lightly threaten to back out, couldn't you? Tell them you've found an enticing offer elsewhere and seeing as how it's taking them 4 months to get it to you, you might just go ahead and take it. Mark
Steve you said a Studio Trans-amber? I don't remember ever seeing one of those. I have a Standard Trans-amber and I don't think they make them anymore. Check out the finish options on this Gibson site Mark

Stewie
I went into the Portland Maine GC and wanted a specific gutar. They said they had it in stock so it would take a few days. I asked where it was located that it would take that long if it was in stock and they said California. So don't let that "In stock" fool you. Also I ordered a Deluxe Player Strat from a Ma and Pa store and the distributor said it would be shipped in 4 to 5 weeks. I waited for 5 months and I finally contacted Fender and they said that the model and fretboard choices are only made in batches of 100 to 200. They do not make them if they don't have orders. So don't blame GC it might even be Gibson. I have been waiting 3 weeks for a Fireburst Studio that is supposed to be in stock, which means it is 60 miles from where the store is. I could walk that far in 3 weeks!
FennRx
they did the same thing to me when i ordered my LP Classic. I went in and started yelling and swearing. I literally had the guitar in 4 days. i hated having to be "that guy" but it works. after that, i started ordering guitars from zzounds.com. if they say they have it, then they have it. and the no tax or shipping is nice too. bottom line- guitar center sucks. i will never ever buy anything costing more than 20 bucks from guitar center. Steve Sgro
That is upsetting news Stewie. I don't know if I can take 5 months of waiting. If I were you I would learn how to build Fender's, get a job at the factory and built your guitar. That would be quicker. I think I will just hang tight for a while and pester the salespeople at GC every week. I actually called Gibson support and they said unless it is a custom design or color, it shouldn't take this long.

Stewie
Hey this will be my 14th Electric so I have lots to play with. I have been down this road many times so I really am not all that upset. The only problem I get into is that by the time I get the guitar I have been waiting for I have moved on to another. So I have to get excited about it all over again. Sometimes it doesn't happen. I already own an ES335, and SG, and I have an Epi eltist Les Paul Custom, which is as nice as any Gibson I have seen, but I wanted a Gibson Les Paul to round out my collection. Steve Sgro
I just spoke with a Customer Service person at Gibson about the Studio Premium Plus. He told me that the Studio Premium Plus has been discontinued starting the beginning of this year. I am hoping that my order still went through. As suggested by the customer service rep. I called Guitar Center to have them research the order. In case anyone is wondering, I will post the outcome as this my affect anyone who ordered the Studio PP before January. Zaphod B
Good luck, Steve. I hope you get it, and soon. I have heard other stories of GC accepting orders for guitars that have been discontinued, with the eventual outcome being that after a few months of frustrating wait, you get your money back. Hopefully your order went in on time. BTW, I think the translucent amber is one of the two most beautiful finishes offered on Les Pauls (wine red being the other). Great pick on the color. Steve Sgro
I agree on the color. It is impossible to see what it actually looks like on the internet. Depending on what sites you go to, the color changes from dark tan (Zzounds) to bright yellow (Musician's Friend). Even Gibson's website doesn't have a photo of it. It wasn't until I saw a Les Paul Standard with the amber finish at my local guitar store that I realized that was the color for me. Its neither tan or yellow. Steve Sgro
UPDATE FOR ANYONE INTERESTED! I just received my Trans Amber Studio P+ !!! It took Guitar Ctr 4 months to get it to me. What ended up happening was the salesperson at the store noticed that they had them in stock on guitarcenter.com so he canceled the special order with Gibson and had their online store ship it to me. Once he did that the guitar was delivered to me within two weeks. Besides the toggle switch being rotated 180 degrees and loose, the guitar came flawless. The finish is far better than I was imagining the past 4 months. Once I fixed the toggle all is well. If anyone wants to see the trans-amber finish on a studio let me know and I will post some photos.

DuaLeaD
Yeah don't worry about it. I would suggest keep following up with your local music shop (or whoever you ordered it through) every 1-2 weeks. I waited from May 8th, 2007 to December 17th, 2007 for my Les Paul Supreme to arrive. Though I think that had something to do with it being a Supreme and also the color white as my trusted Gibson authorized salesman told me. He said the factory hates doing white guitars. It's just a difficult and lengthy operation appearantly. He said every 2 months at Gibson, they clean out all the hoses and associates nozzles (damn good, almost purify since any imperfections will show up like a sore thumb on white) and spray white guitars for 2 days. Then, they have to clean all over again and go into color production. Can anyone confirm or partially confirm this?

Steve Sgro
Here are a few photos of my new friend. Many of the photos on the internet depicting this finish are not very accurate. Although the finish tint varies depending on the angle, I tried to make sure the shots were accurate and didn't distort the color.
