Should I trade in my SG? Install P90's?

When I was younger I was into heavy rock n roll, now my taste is leaning more towards a cleaner sound. So I'm thinking of either trading the SG in for a Tele or just installing p-90's on it. What are your thoughts? Thank you.

Sounds like you need to try a few out and find one you really like. Your musical tastes will continue to evolve as you get older. So is there anyway you can keep the SG and still afford a new axe? If you are going to make a living playing guitar you most likely will need a few different guitars and you may later find the SG useful.

I wish you all the luck in the world with your musical career.

p.s. I lot of us older guys have sold guitars that they have later regretted. Try to hold on to the good ones if possible.

I've outgrown the music that caused me to buy the guitar.

I'm only 17 and I don't have much money so if I want a tele I must sell my SG. I doubt I will find the SG later useful because as we get older we tend to like more calm music, no? And I'm already progressing from rock to folk-rock.. I actually dislike most rock music greatly.

Well, Rock4ever. Even Pete Townshend plays a Tele, and a LP, and an SG. The idea is versatility and different sounding guitars for different moods/songs. However, I know you're young and probably can't afford a collection. Does your SG have Humbuckers now. If so, and if you decide to change pickups, then you'll need P-94s. It basically the same pickup as a P-90, but it will fit in a humbucker space. You'd probably get a nice sound from that pup swap, but will it be the sound you want?

I think you'd be better off playing all the guitars you're interested in until you find "the one" and then trade your SG in on that guitar. There is also the option to install a coil splitting switch setup on the SG, but will it be the sound you want? Only you know. The best option is probably to trade for a different guitar.

PS: Most SG's are BAD *** versatile sounding guitars.

I understand. Play as many guitars as you can get your hands on and then trade. Nothing wrong with getting rid of the SG. May not make sense to put too much money into the SG at this point. Sounds like you are ready for a change
