Identifying a very old pickup

Hi,

I'm new to this forum and looking for help identifying a 2-pole pickup that was on my father's Gibson Cromwell. I'm not sure if it was originally fitted to the guitar (I suspect not) or if it was fitted afterwards. My guess is that it dates from the late '30s, but I'm unable to find anything like it on the web.

Two oval pole pieces, about 3.8k ohms resistance. About 82mm x 46mm x 10mm (very roughly 3 1/4 x 2 7/16 x 13/32) It appears to be covered in some sort of imitation leather. Purchased in the UK.

With thanks in advance for any info or suggestions where else I could look.

Very interesting, Nick. Sorry though, I am of no help and have never seen anything like it. Can you ascertain that it still functions? I would be interested to see how(and where) it was mounted on the Cromwell. Are we talking 'archtop'?

If you have any pics of the guitar-please share [thumbup]
