jannusguy Posted December 30, 2008 Posted December 30, 2008 was that a taylor alan jackson was wearing? very nice. he shoulda played it! george jones tribute was ****! not a gibson in sight since i've tuned in. too bad. taylor, takamine, gretsch, fender. oh well. betty lavette tore up "love reign 'or me". anyone else see this?
cdhaskett Posted December 30, 2008 Posted December 30, 2008 I thought AJ always plays a Taylor. While I am not familiar with Betty Lavette I also thought she did a fabulous job. I was a bit concerned at first when they brought out Joss Stone to do a tribute to The Who. I love her music, but her style does not go well with The Who. I thought Dave Grohl certainly did one of the best tributes of the night second to Garth Brooks of course. I think I am half biased though, Garth is one of my faves.
jannusguy Posted December 30, 2008 Author Posted December 30, 2008 garth did a great job! joss didn't embarrass anyone. beyonce' did an amazing job. never thought i'd write that. what a voice! what a great show.

I agree, man, Beyonce' was fantastic. Not a fan, but if she sang like that more often, I would be. Loved Garth doing White Lightning. I can't believe I forgot that song. I'm from Appalachia and I used to sing that song as a kid. Gonna have to relearn it. Oh, and yes, I've drunk my share!

[/quote'] Now I didn't see this but having seen the Who a hundred times (nearly) over the years from the High Numbers days and also having seen Joss Stone before she became American, I have to say that I would have had zero expectations of her doing a tribute unless of course she stood with her "guitar hero instrument" and mimed along to John Entwistle's "Boris the Spider"
TheLiveSoundGuy Posted December 31, 2008 Posted December 31, 2008 Not sure why AJ switched from a Dove in the early day, to playing Taylors. Could be he just liked the way Taylors hang. Could be, Gibson's AR people just let this one go by the wayside, if he was costing them a lot of Doves. Who knows? Seems Tracy Lawrence has no problems getting Doves though. Didn't see the show, but sure I will at some point.
jefleppard Posted December 31, 2008 Posted December 31, 2008 i think the key is that aj doesn't actually play it and why does garth still play a tak? ugh. i think bettye stole the show. beautiful soul treatment of love reigh o'er me.
