lespaul16 Posted December 31, 2008 Posted December 31, 2008 Hi there recently i purchased my first les paul Yay! i chose 57's over the burstbucker pro#s, i was just wondering peoples opinions please. i play led zeppelin slash ac/dc aerosmith that kinda thing and i was just wondering if the 57s in peoples opinions are closer to that kind of sound. one last thing, also a question about a slash-esque sound. i'm not trying to get his sound or replicate him or anything its out of curiosity. i know the bb pros have alnico V magnets and the 57's; alnico II's and slash uses SD alnico II's as everyone knows. out of curiosity does this mean the 57's would sound more like slash with the alnico 2 magnets or have i interpreted this wrong thank you very much for your help
LM-LP Posted December 31, 2008 Posted December 31, 2008 I see that you just joined and welcome these guys on here are really helpful anyway the 57's would probably get the sound that you want because i have those on mine and it sounds just like Angus Young, Jimmy Page and all the other classic guitarists but personally i make my own sound and tone from the guitar to make it more original. I don't try out things as much and i really don't know what the bb's sound like for the most part but the classics would get that sound you want
lespaul16 Posted December 31, 2008 Author Posted December 31, 2008 thank you very much LM-LP thats brilliant. :) anyone else have any ideas too?
dcooper830 Posted December 31, 2008 Posted December 31, 2008 The both sound pretty much the same to me. But the Burstbucker PROs have more high end bite to 'em. I love both pickups! I think whichever you decide to get, you'll be extremely happy. They're great for classic rock and hard rock. Actually...... I think they're great for any style of music. I play country gigs and R&B/Blues gigs with them too. But if you're wanting a Slash-like sound..... you might want to buy the pickups he uses (Seymour Duncan Alnico II PROs).
TattooedCarrot Posted December 31, 2008 Posted December 31, 2008 BB's = Gritty/trebly 57's = Smooth/Middy
guitar_randy Posted December 31, 2008 Posted December 31, 2008 The burstbuckers do seem quite trebly, thats why I don't care for em. The 57 classics are the cream of the crop I am thinking.
modoc_333 Posted January 1, 2009 Posted January 1, 2009 make sure you don't lump all of the burstbuckers into one group. there is a big difference between the BB1, BB2, BB3 set and the BB pros. the first group uses alnico 2 mags. i think they are the best option. next i rank the 57s, and the bb pros last... for that type of music.

buchananblues Posted January 1, 2009 Posted January 1, 2009 Man - dig it. Personally, I prefer the classic '57's through a fine tube amp. The tone and sound of those babies are just amazing.
