Pickup Hole

I have a 1986 Hummingbird which was fitted with an aftermarket pick up by it previous owner, I presume all those years ago. The pickup is no longer working or the same brand (A.G.A Phase 2) available.

I am seriously thinking about having the pickup removed and the hole filled professionally with mahogany. I am not too concerned with the appearance as I very much doubt that I will ever sell the guitar. But I am concerned with wether I can expect any tonal changes.

I would appreciate any opinions or suggestion from the forum.

P.S Just quietly I quite like the look of Willie Nelson's and Tommy Emmanuel's acoustics as they have that story telling look, if you know what I mean.

My 1942 J-45 had an old jack hole near the endpin when I got it. Willi Henkes of Antique Acoustics did a wonderful job of repairing it, see below.

After.

No change in tone at all, just better looking!

Any one ever had a pre-amp hole in the side patched?

if so how did it turn out.

I want to replace current Aura pro with a Trance amulet and the pre-amp can either stay non functioning or patch the left over hole....OR

Leave it in then using the Aura's batt to power the amulet and it would be easier to change batts ...
