Does that "E" on the pick guard only bug me?

Interestingly enough (to me at least), I just realized that the "E" on the p/g on my el cheapo DR100 is very similar to Volmer's (i.e. embeded in the guard, not "added" on). Pic doesn't show it well, but you get the idea:

Inlay = "tasteful"

Sticker = "trashy & cheap"

IMO, of course :)

I took the E off my Casino, and later got another, thinner pickguard made.

Why remove the E? Clutter, the E on the truss rod cover is enough for me.

Why thinner? I like to feel the bottom of the pickup with my right pinky when singing (mouth glued to the mic) and I want to orient my hand to play call & response licks. Once oriented, I can let go of the pickup.

In the end, I sort of "Gibsonized" my Casino, not to make it look like one, because I think it looks better that way. If I wanted to hide the Epiphone headstock, I'd get a clip on tuner ;)

I think the black pickguard brings out the beauty of the wood better, the no E gets rid of the distraction, and the witch hat knobs bring tie the black headstock, black pickguard and black knobs together to make the guitar look classier. But of course, that's my own opinion. What do you think?

This string box belonged to my grandfather, probably from the 1930's. If I had to put a fine point on as to why I like the "E" it's probably the history and nostalgia that goes along with it and the company.

I don't think anyone dislikes the "E". It's the manner of execution. The "sticker" routine is just not being accepted as appropriate on this quality of instrument.

I may remove the "E" off of the truss cover on my ZBD, I would leave it if the color matched the inlays on the headstock but it is too bright for my taste..... [unsure]

I got rid of the '€' on mine by using a black Sharpie marker to cover it. Same goes for the white layers on my multi-ply black and white pickguards. Works for me.

Well yeah, I can see that point. [wink]
