pressgrove Posted January 1, 2009 Posted January 1, 2009 I have a 1986 single cutaway Les Paul Jr. reissue that has 900 as the last three numbers of the serial number, which I understand may denote it being a prototype. Below the serial number is stamped "SEG". It has an adjustable bridge that I have't seen on other Les Paul Jrs. and the original style gold Bakelite knobs. Could anyone tell me what the "SEG" signifies and whether or not it is a prototype? Thanks very much.
Madguitarist78 Posted January 1, 2009 Posted January 1, 2009 I have never heard of a Jr. set up lie that, Im just thinkin aloud but maby seg stands for " Single Edition Guitar" As that it was a one off or special ordered, Sounds like a sweet hookup if you can post some pictures...
pressgrove Posted January 1, 2009 Author Posted January 1, 2009 Here it is. I bought it from a friend about 20 years ago for $350, I think. You could be right.... John usually keeps about 30 guitars and could have had it made in Nashville. Thanks. http://picasaweb.google.com/lawsonmabry/LesPaulJr?authkey=N39eF1jfM3Q#
pressgrove Posted January 1, 2009 Author Posted January 1, 2009 I remember now. $350 included the guitar and a vintage Kustom K 50 Tuck and roll amp!
BIGBENDS Posted January 1, 2009 Posted January 1, 2009 Press, your best bet is to send Gibson Customer Service an email with your serial # and question. They can tell you what you want to know. Sorry I can't help much, but it's definitely a nice LP Jr.
Madguitarist78 Posted January 1, 2009 Posted January 1, 2009 I wish i had the money to keep 30 guitars........................................
pressgrove Posted January 1, 2009 Author Posted January 1, 2009 Me too. don't know where I'd put them, though.
MReynolds Posted January 2, 2009 Posted January 2, 2009 Here it is. I bought it from a friend about 20 years ago for $350' date=' I think. You could be right.... John usually keeps about 30 guitars and could have had it made in Nashville. Thanks. http://picasaweb.google.com/lawsonmabry/LesPaulJr?authkey=N39eF1jfM3Q# [/quote'] It would have been nice to have a close up of the back like you did the front of the head...I'm not sure I've ever seen a guitar with "SEG" below the serial number...I have seen them with "SEC" for Second, denoting one that wasn't up to Gibson's quality standards.
KingMetalHeart Posted January 2, 2009 Posted January 2, 2009 Nice looking guitar! Try this link http://www.guitardaterproject.org/gibson.aspx
pressgrove Posted January 2, 2009 Author Posted January 2, 2009 I think you're right. It may say "SEC". According to the Blue Book by S.P. Fjestad, regarding the last three numbers of the serial number: "It should also be noted that the Nashville plant has not reached the 900s since 1977, so these numbers have been reserved for prototypes" I bet it was a prototype they sold from the factory as a second. There's nothing wrong with the guitar. Here's the back: http://picasaweb.google.com/lawsonmabry/LesPaulJrSn?authkey=7rHiz0wQcsw#5286674695482373746 Thanks
Madguitarist78 Posted January 2, 2009 Posted January 2, 2009 Well either way, thats a nice lookin guitar, if i were you i would put gold hardware on it, but thats just me
