Getting back into guitars. Budget not a huge issue but bread always important. Studio, standard, supreme??

I want to learn slide and play rock/blues. I've thought about Epiphone or Japanese knockoff and spend less but I'd just rather have the LP. Good or bad idea?

Well, Jobberone, Gibson are the better choice and hold their value better. For slide you need higher action on the strings and most of us like our LP's with lower action for chords and licks. IMO an SG, a LP Jr., or a Melody Maker would be a better choice for slide guitar. I'm sure a few of these guys slide it on a Les Paul, but I think the majority don't. What do you guys say?

I would say that you should choose the best guitar for you, and then learn to use that guitar for playing slide.

I've seen good blues/rock players use about every style of guitar for slide, so I don't think anyone should exclude any brand or type.

I started out learning slide on a lap steel. They are great for learning the basics of slide, and you don't have to worry about setting the action higher on your regular guitar. From there, it's not a huge step to getting a good feel for playing slide on any guitar.
