New LP Studio Owner

Got my LP Studio a short while ago, love it. Wine red chrome, plays like a dream. I do have 3 questions for the experts.

1. The neck pickup rocks back and forth (up and down) a bit, if I push slightly on it. The Bridge pickup is in there pretty solid. I assume this is normal? Based on another guitar I own with humbuckers, it seems to be. Just checking. It does not move on it's own or anything, and it's attached firmly, it's just a bit floaty.

2. The bridge pickup is pretty bassy. I had to turn the bass on my amp down quite a bit. Granted, my amp is bassy anyways (fender blues deluxe) and I am used to a strat, but just making sure this is to be expected.

3. What do you folks recommend to clean and polish? Cloths, polishes, etc. I want to take the best care of her that I can.

thanks!

Congrats on the new Studio. I'm no expert, but I'll put my two cents in.

1. I never noticed until I read your post and tried on mine, but my neck p/u rocks a little more than the bridge if I push on it. I don't think it's an issue to worry about.

2. Did you mean the neck p/u is bassy? I've never thought my bridge p/u (498T) is bassy and have never heard anyone else say it. The neck p/u (490R) is a little dark but sounds great clean or in certain places when distorted.

3. I just wipe mine down with a regular cloth. I've never had a problem. Once in a while I use a polish that I recieved for Christmas a few years ago. I think it's called Vinci or something like that.

I had a '96 wine red studio...beautiful guitar...sounded awesome....I loved it.

IMHO:

1. Neck pup...that's normal.

2. bridge pup...you're used to the strat sound...LP's are more bassy. Find tone settings on your amp/guitar/effects that you like. Every guitar/amp/effects combo is different.

3. Gibson sells a kit: Metal cleaner, laquer polish/cleaner and fretboard oil. It's everything you need and it works great.

Thanks guys.

As for 'bassy' I think you are exactly right, having only a strat for so long takes a little adjusting and tweaking. Along with bassy, it's much fuller sounding, which compliments our other electric strat player, it added a nice new dimension to the sound, really filled things out. I do still use the strat for some songs, so with one amp it will be fun trying to get a balance.

I used to think I was a strat guy, I do love the strat tone, but after playing my LP, it's hard to go back, the LP just feels so right, and I love how I can rest my hand on the bridge and not worry about knobs being in the way.

Yeah, I played a MIM Strat and a friends Strat with a bridge humbucker for about 10 years. They are great guitars and very comfortable/friendly to play. But since I've got my LP Studio, with it's 10lbs and nice round 50's neck, and deep sounding p/u's, all other guitars feel so weak and insignificant now.
