I want to buy a Gibson SG like the one in the picture. Is it considered a Standard or 61 Reissue?? What is the difference between Reissue and Standard? I am having a hard time finding one with out the Mini E Tune..

That has the larger headstock, so it's the '61 reissue. The 2013 SG Standard

would be an excellent alternative, if you don't like the larger headstock, of

the '61. The 2014 SG Standard, as well...BUT, the 2014 has the "mini-tune"

system, as standard=no choice. The 2013's have standard tuning machines,

with the "option" of the "mini-tune" system, if you want. So, that may or may

not be a factor, to you.

The '61 Reissue does NOT have the mini-tune system. And, the headstock size

is "vintage correct" if ever so slightly wider/more pointed, toward the top.

The VOS and/or "historic" Custom Shop reissues, have a more "squared" and

historically correct, headstock. No big deal, unless your "bent" that way.

I basicely want the model without the mini E Tune. as far as the head stock goes i dont care. and it must have the smaller pickguard. is it possible to still buy new 2013 models? But thanks for the info...

2013 Standards are still around! You just have to find them!

Check some of the smaller "Family owned" dealers. The Big Box

places MAY have some, stil...but, they tend to go through stock

fairly often, and will most likely have the 2014 models, now.

But, you never know... [biggrin] Good Luck! All current SG

"Standards" now, have the small pickguards, and early '60's

beveling and horn tapering, once again (FINALLY)...Thankyou Gibson!!! [thumbup][biggrin]

I guess i will be on the look out for a older model. i had no idea that there was so many differences in the SG's. and to think all i wanted was a Black one with the smaller pick guard. but i dont want the mini e tune and not crazy about the PCB eather. When did they start useing the PCB's ?

Not sure. Like I said, they seem to be in some of the least expensive SG's and maybe even Les Paul's. I have not been buying new guitars in some time and a couple of years ago I bought a brand-new 2010 SG classic. I was wondering how they sold such a great guitar for $1000. When I got it home and played it for a while, I took off the control cover on the back and noticed the PCB.

The glossy finish SG 61's do not have the PCB and they have rosewood boards, the faded finish SG 61's have maple boards, not sure about the PCB, maybe CB can tell you about his faded SG 61.

I guess i am looking for a Gibson SG 61 ressiue in black. That is what my Epiphone is suppose to be. i really like it so i guess a ressiue is what i am looking for.

Can somebody tell the major differences in the early model ressiues? i know the 66 re is the model that has the batwing pickguard but past that i dont know much about the SG.
