hawknroll Posted January 2, 2009 Posted January 2, 2009 I am going to be in Nashville for a couple days in a couple of weeks - I've never been there before. Seeing as Gibson's HQ is in Nashville, is there a Gibson museum or anything like that? Unfortunately, I see from browsing the website that factory tours are only available in Memphis..
Murph Posted January 2, 2009 Posted January 2, 2009 Opry Mills is pretty cool. I've never done the factory deal. Gruhns is not a dealer, but will have some nice vintage stuff. The Country Music Hall Of Fame is nice, three stories of junk. A ton of Gibsons in there with mucho mojo. I go to Nashville several times a year. Best of luck. Murph.

They also give tours in Bozeman where the acoustics are manufactured. I agree with Murph, though; visit the Grand Ole Opry.
Homz Posted January 2, 2009 Posted January 2, 2009 I've been there many times. Other then a pretty decent night life I wasn't impressed. I suppose if your into country music it might be interesting. I admit I've never been to the Gibson facility. That would probably be cool. I would say a weekend in Austin would be much more fun.
RudyH Posted January 2, 2009 Posted January 2, 2009 There's a lot there. Go to some guitar shops, for sure. Gruhn guitars should be at the top of your list. Rock Block has a good selection of instructional books. Go to some music clubs. The guys at the guitar shops will be able to tell you what's good. There are a lot of places for live music. Then there's all the country music stuff to see.
ChanMan Posted January 2, 2009 Posted January 2, 2009 You'll want to visit The Gibson Showcase at Opry Mills. It is Gibson Heaven. Loads of other stuff to do here, too, if you're touristy and this is your first trip. Have fun!
Mark Posted January 3, 2009 Posted January 3, 2009 Tubbs Opry Mills Charlie Daniels place Vanderbilt Music Row River Front That has got to be one of my favorite towns Have fun, and make sure you walk off the main strip there are alot of great small live music places
Riffster Posted January 3, 2009 Posted January 3, 2009 Unfortunately there are no guitar factory tours at Gibson is Nashville, I think you can tour the mandolin/dobro manufacturing facility that is right next to the Gibson Showcase store but then again you don't have to tour it, you can just look through the window. Nashville offers a lot to do and it is much more than country music but you have to know where to look and where to go. If you go to Broadway it is going to be country music for sure. The Blue Bird Cafe in Green Hills is an unassuming little venue in a strip mall but it is cool if you can get in. I used to go there for unplugged night and enjoyed it every time. 3rd and Lindsley is only a few blocks from Broadway. Last time I was there Vince Gill was playing incognito, it was cool, it shows that he used to be a session guitar player. You just never who you are going to see in Nashville.
surfpup Posted January 3, 2009 Posted January 3, 2009 Non-Gibson stuff... but hey, ya gotta eat... Make sure you eat at SATCO (San Antonio Taco Company) - Mexican. Rotiers's for the grilled cheeseburgers. And if you feel like a drive, head out to Loveless Cafe for the best fried chicken on the planet.
guitarbob123 Posted January 3, 2009 Posted January 3, 2009 there may be a hard rock cafe there i'm not sure though, so don't quote me on that. (could be hard country cafe )
Mark Posted January 3, 2009 Posted January 3, 2009 there may be a hard rock cafe there i'm not sure though' date=' so don't quote me on that. (could be hard country cafe :P )[/quote'] Yep right down by the river
Riffster Posted January 3, 2009 Posted January 3, 2009 Yep, the hard rock is pretty country. I will second surpup on Rotiers is a good suggestion for eating, the Loveless is a bit out of the way but it is excellent especially for breakfast. SATCO is cool but summer is best on the deck. You can also go by the Yazoo Brewery if you are into beer, they only have tours on Saturday but they do have a tap room. http://www.yazoobrew.com/yazoomain.html The Flying Saucer (next to the Frist Museum) has about 100 beers to choose from.
ChanMan Posted January 3, 2009 Posted January 3, 2009 +1 on the flying saucer! And don't forget Jack's BBQ!
