tnbender Posted February 19, 2008 Posted February 19, 2008 Hey, I bought a cherry red double cutaway Gibson Les Paul Jr. from a yardsale. It was DUSTY with probably one string. Everything looks perfect on this guitar! Finish crazing, klusons, nice headstock decal with crazing through it, old looking pots, bumblebee ?capacitor?*sp. My only problem is that it has NO serial number. With that discovery, I assuned it was a Univox copy. I let my Step father look at the guitar, and he really thinks it could be an original. Hes always stressed "if theres no serial number, then its not a gibson". But this one has him stumped. Does anyone have any clue as to how to identify? Are there special markings on the dog ear cover, the bridge, the pots, the tuners? I really need help. He suggested that it could have been stolen and sanded down, and refinished. When you look at the back of the headstock, you can see some imperfections in the finish. Does anyone have any specs on the originals, like headstock thickness? Please let me know!
Eracer_Team Posted February 20, 2008 Posted February 20, 2008 The guys here are really good at identifing if you can post a picture of it.
tnbender Posted February 20, 2008 Author Posted February 20, 2008 My stepfather has it right now. An employee at his friends music store owns an original 59, she he will be comparing the two today. Would it be a valid point to say that the black dogear cover have a stamp in them(uu-450-1) or something that only they put in the covers? Also, if anyone has one, is the SN stamped on the hs or printed onthe hs?
