Headstock "Font"

Recommended Posts

I noticed that the font on my 1966 Reissue G-400 Pro doesn't match what's on the official Epiphone website. Here's the official:

On mine, the N doesn't drop down below the rest of the letters (where I have the red arrow).

I'm guessing it's just a change in production, but was curious what anyone else thought about that? Unless it's indicative of a "fake", I'm not concerned.

I have two guitars, a 2004 Les Paul Classic and a 2002 G-310 on which the "n" drops down below the line. I have three guitars, all bought within the last 6 months, none of which does the "n" drop down. All of these guitars were bought new and from reputable dealers.

It seems like over the last few months Epiphone have been phasing in the "Vintage" logo as the "Official" logo rather than the one they've been using for a long time with the Epiphone "E" but the rest essentially in the Gibson font.

It used to be they used the "Vintage" logo on more Epiphone guitars that were "originally" Epiphones (Casino, Wilshire) and used the Gibson like one on Epiphone versions of Gibson designs (Les Paul, SG) but it looks like they have switched to "Vintage" for almost everything now.

If you look at the Guitar Gallery at Sweetwater, where you can see actual instruments they have in stock, all the Les Pauls and G400s have the "Vintage" logo.

Hadn't paid any attention to this before reading this thread, but looking at my Epi's, they all (except the 'Kat which has the Bikini) have the vintage font (Casino, Dot, DR100 & DR212) and my Epi banjo too. Yes, I said banjo [biggrin]
