jdogric12 8 Report post Posted March 4, 2014 A little bird told me there was a video somewhere showing how WildKats are made. Is this true? Something about them being hollowed out from one solid hunk o wood?
Dennis G 319 Report post Posted March 4, 2014 I don't know about a video, but search the forum. Somewhere in here is a picture of the 'Kat's body without the top. It is chambered from a solid piece of wood and that photo will clearly show you that. Found one: https://www.google.com/search?q=epiphone+wildkat+body&client=firefox-a&hs=z1I&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&channel=sb&tbm=isch&imgil=z3PGC8QVCzLHXM%253A%253Bhttps%253A%252F%252Fencrypted-tbn2.gstatic.com%252Fimages%253Fq%253Dtbn%253AANd9GcTCLh59f7XU3WwS5kYSa0v6CJAydXs39aKW3SydVn-BSiMZMmNm%253B629%253B428%253BqjWPmyPdR-VAlM%253Bhttp%25253A%25252F%25252Fgretschpages.com%25252Fforum%25252Fother-guitars%25252Fepiphone-wildkat-anyone-own-one%25252F52291%25252Fpage1%25252F&source=iu&usg=__Gfd-nLGT19o3tr-F5klSf1ot174%3D&sa=X&ei=mEIWU8qfHYXtoASarYC4Cw&ved=0CGQQ9QEwBQ&biw=1366&bih=638#facrc=_&imgdii=_&imgrc=z3PGC8QVCzLHXM%253A%3BqjWPmyPdR-VAlM%3Bhttp%253A%252F%252Fi170.photobucket.com%252Falbums%252Fu278%252FParabar%252FGuitars%252Fwildkatinterior.jpg%3Bhttp%253A%252F%252Fgretschpages.com%252Fforum%252Fother-guitars%252Fepiphone-wildkat-anyone-own-one%252F52291%252Fpage1%252F%3B629%3B428
Parabar 158 Report post Posted March 4, 2014 To clarify, the "solid piece of wood" in question is actually 2 or 3 pices laminated together lengthwise, then shaped and routed before the top is added.

Thx, you are correctomundo. Didn't mean to infer that it was all one piece, just that it wasn't "assembled" like a semi.
PeteWilson 0 Report post Posted March 5, 2014 How do you suppose that they get the sides and back thin enough? I guess they use robotics...
Parabar 158 Report post Posted March 5, 2014 If you look at the pic in the link in post no. 2, you'll see that the sides and back are actually quite thick. But yes, virtually all parts of the guitar are cut using computer-controlled routers, so they can replicate the exact thickness every time. That's why "cheap" guitars nowadays are SO much better than "cheap" guitars in the 60's and 70's. Precision with necks, fret positions and body dimensions is easy with computer tools.
